God no! Worst case scenario, Cedeno is a cheap backup MIF for 4 more years. Best case scenario hes able to translate his AAA sucess to the majors and be an average starting SS for cheap for the next 4 years. I wouldn't give up on him just yet, hes only 24 and has another year of options.

So, going after an OF that can't hit at all, let alone for power, can't field, and can only play LF to shore up an offense that can't hit for power and can't get on base.

 

If this happens, and the Cubs give up something of value, and they actually play Podsednik, I will have given up all hope that this team was capable of doing something intelligent.

yikes. my optimism that this was just one of those many lets-see-what-happens claims is diminishing. It still could be, a source speculating that we "could be attempting to work out a trade" doesn't hold a ton of water. Just enough to make me worry a bit this afternoon.

 

The nice thing about August trade speculation is that rumors don't typically last more than 47 hours. :)

I remember a few years ago when this board actually made sense. I agreed with a lot that was said here but was never a frequent poster. Can someone please tell me what has happened to all the people on this board that a year or 2 ago made any sense.

 

Every person Jim is interested in, that is some what decent and will not be a starter very long and WILL BOLSTER THE BENCH, you guys hate. Stewart is what the Cubs need, not as their everyday lead off hitter but as their primary #2 hitter. He is significantly better than Floyd and at this point, I am just so disappointed with Floyd that I would rather see Podsednik out there than Floyd.

 

Reading through these 5 pages or so, I have seen very few people accepting of Podesednik. Why? I'll tell you why, because everyone on this board thinks they know how to solve this teams problems when in fact they really dont. There are so many complainers on this damn board that just need to keep their mouths shut. NSBB is almost becoming an annoying place to talk about baseball. Acquiring Podsednik will not cost much, we all know that, so get that crap out of your heads. I would rather have Podsednik on my bench than Pagan.

 

Regardless of what half you GM wannabes think, Podsednik will be a decent bench/spot starter to this team that has speed makes good contact, runs the bases smart and can play a little defense.

The problem is that he has to get on base to run the bases smart, and he hasn't done that well. He also can't play defense at all, so I'm not sure which Scott Podsednik you've seen.

 

As far as Pagan and Podsednik, they both suck, but we already have one, and I wouldn't want to give anything for the other.

 

Also, no one said he'd cost a lot to aquire. KW probably can't wait to dump him on us.

And makes less money. Podsednik is still owed $800,000. Not that that's a lot of money, but still. Podsednik only brings one thing to the table and that's his ability to steal, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy so he only has 7 stolen bases on the season with 3 caught stealing. At least Pagan can hit a homerun every once in a while.

Doesn't get on base, doesn't hit for power (one of the team's biggest problems), average defensive player at best. What's the point? He doesn't improve the team even marginally. If the Cubs got him, it would be 'just to make a move'
