Listening to the Score on the way into work this morning, Mike North actually said something viable - "...Ryan Howard is stupid baseball player". I wouldn't flag him as a stupid baseball player however, beyond hitting there's really nothing else Howard does well. I'll give him the bat over D. Lee but, D. Lee beats him hand over fist in the remaining facets of the game, so to does Prince Fielder and of course, Albert Pujols. Despite the MVP last season, I believe Pujols is the superior hitter and player compared to Howard.

Howard is a better power hitter than DLee and thats it. Lee is the better hitter, and better baseball player.

Wonder if there's any chance Wood could be activated before Thursday's game as an available arm in the pen.

Although I'd be concerned that his first pitch may go about 100 feet.

Lou was asked about this possibility and he said it is very tempting, and it had already crossed his mind. However, he said they will resist the temptation since Wood did go almost a full 2 innings on Tues night, and they will give him a full 2 days off.

That means when I'm at Wrigley tomorrow I could see Kerry Wood's 2007 debut.

Hope it's a good one.

He won't pitch until Friday, at the earliest.

Edit: Nevermind, by tomorrow, you mean Friday.

On the phone around midnight last night with my girlfriend: "Cubs play a day game tomorrow, so we won't have to stay up so late to talk."

Congrats man....you have a woman who clearly understands your hierarchy of "what is vitally important." :D

According to Omar's numbers, apparently Z should start or at least pinch hit. 2.500 OPS (I know, I know, sample size.)

Go Cubs, 2 more months

Side Note: Karl Ravech on BBTN made his "BOLD PREDICTION" that the Cubs will lead the Central by more games that any other division leader by August's end

i just gotta say on August 1st, 1984 the cubs beat the phillies 5-4 on a walkoff to move into first place... a lead they never relinquished....weird

GO CUBS

Holy crap. Eerie.

Hope it ends better than 84 did.

Unless it was a walkoff wild pitch, I think we've eluded the '84 aura. ;)

I can't decide - is the extent to which the Cubs can affect my mood (more than most other silly games that I don't even play in) really sad or really awesome?

I very much like this winning thing. Keep doing it, please.

I'm not sure what exactly her response to the remark was, but I'm pretty sure that a) it had something to do with priorities and attention, and b) I was too preoccupied with the Cubs being in first place to listen.

It's definitely a double-edge sword, which is why I had to walk away from this team completely last season. Though this season, their mood-altering powers have been nothing short of awesome 8-)

With the Brewers likely teeing off against Brian Lawerence today, we're going to need to win to keep pace.

We better hit Lohse this time. He sucks against everyone else, then dominates us. I hate players like that.
