For real? Can this experiment end yet?

Gack. Fontenot needs to have a seat like Theriot did a little while back...but I guess it's been a while since DeRosa sat...or has it?

Man, Murton cannot get a break.

I could be wrong. I heard it like 10 minutes ago. But I'm pretty sure there was no Murton, Cedeno, or DeRosa.

Why? He projects to be a better everyday player than Theriot. I agree that he's ice cold right now and probably needs to sit a few like Ryan did earlier, but to talk like he's busted for good is a bit premature.

Wow, on ESPN 1000 one of the guys is tearing apart the "choking" and "clutch" "nonsense". This is great. I can't believe it.

And now he's saying "the best numbers in baseball are OBP and SLG".

Tearing apart Arod "choking when the chips are down".

Theriot can play SS.

I know! The other guy was pulling out all the cliches, but it was amazing to hear that on air.

I'm just shocked. I may never listen to 670 again.

Right, and Fontenot can play 2nd when DeRosa sits or has to cover elsewhere.

The most worrisome part of the lineup to me is Hill catching. I hope that even though Kendall has the hotter bat right now, Lou doesn't go back to him tomorrow and goes with Hill two days in a row.

Z + Hill = works great.

Z + Kendall = not as much.

Yeah, I would just like to see DeRosa as much as possible. Seems like he's sat a few times recently.

From ESPN:

A couple of weeks ago, the Cubs let the Rangers and Royals know they wanted to be on the list of approved shoppers in the Eric Gagne and Octavio Dotel auctions. A week later, GM Jim Hendry went on a minor-league scouting journey to check out Kerry Wood -- and saw enough to let those teams know the Cubs were withdrawing from that approved-shopper list. So it will be Wood, who could be activated as early as Friday, who could throw a bolt of electricity into the Cubs' playoff drive. And the only piece Hendry even shopped for, once he'd traded for Jason Kendall and satisfied himself that Wood was ready, was a bat off the bench. He could shop around some more in August. But this team looks good enough to win as constituted. The Cubs, said one NL executive, "already did their shopping last winter."

My guess is Lou is trying to keep him as healthy as possible seeing as he's our main backup at a number of key spots.

Overall, I wonder what will happen to Fontenot. Ideally, 2B is Patterson's for the taking at some point next season. If Mike can pick things back up the rest of this season, maybe he can be part of a decent trade package.

And it sounds like they've got Church targeted as that bat off the bench.

Yeah, I guess it can get pretty tiring switching positions as often as he does.

I really wanted to see Murton start after a good game yesterday but oh well, watching him pop up in his PH appearance will be way cooler.

Unfortunately 1000 is barely audible here through the static. I've emailed the station about it and they say they can't broadcast with full power to the south because it would conflict with WOKY in Okalahoma City.

The weird part about that is that WOKY is actually on am920 out of Milwaukee...so I don't know what he's talking about there.

Worst part about Hill and Kendall is that teams can basically steal with abandon on us.

And several of the pitchers don't help matters either. Sometime during the past three days when I was at the games I commented that I could probably steal a base on the Cubs, and I have zero speed at all.

According to gameday, this is the correct lineup. Fontenot needs to sit, and it looks like Murton is relegated to right-handed bench guy who only gets at-bats against lefties.

According to Omar's numbers, apparently Z should start or at least pinch hit. 2.500 OPS (I know, I know, sample size.)

Go Cubs, 2 more months

Side Note: Karl Ravech on BBTN made his "BOLD PREDICTION" that the Cubs will lead the Central by more games that any other division leader by August's end

On the lead-out for that segment, he specifically even said 5 games up. I doubt it, but it would be nice to head into September in first place, let alone 5 games up.
