Any deal for Tex has to start with Jones, to balance some salary.

If I'm Daniels I hang up the phone right then. I've got teams willing to trade me the prospects I want without taking on their crap.

If that's true, then why isn't Tex gone already?

Regardless, the deal has to make sense for Texas AND for the Cubs. Taking on an additional $10M in payroll is not going to make sense for the Cubs.

Now maybe that automatically takes the Cubs out of the running. Who knows.

Even though it is the same division...I think he will be in Anaheim when it is all said and done.

Apparently a deal to the Angels involving Ervin Santana fell through... not sure how true it is, but i saw it on cnnsi.com.

Why? They just sent him down. Might as well trade him for Tex.

There's only a couple of deals I could see Hendry sending Pie packing, and Tex to the Cubs is not one of those.

I think our most likely options are Nady, Lofton, and Stairs, with Dunn/Griffey being longshots.

Could have been the Rangers who turned it down.

Imagine if we could get both Tex and Lofton. How sweet that would be.

That would be Lofton-Ramirez Part Deux.

Lofton

Soriano

Lee

Texeria

ARam

DeRosa

Theriot/Fontenot

Kendall

Holy crap that 2-6 would be sweet.

Start with Pie, Gallagher, and Moore, go from there.

Make sure we leave Petrick out of the mix! If we have to mix another starter in the trade maybe throw Marshall or Hill in there to get the deal done. One last thing we need to get something beside Tex, we would need another minor leaguer or two like we got in the Nomar deal with Murton.

Throw in Marshall or Hill, but whatever you do, don't include Petrick???

yeah, minor leaguers are overvalued to an absurd degree by some people on this board. If there was an nsbb.com 10 or 15 years ago, people would've been demanding the world for Gary Scott, Lance Dickson and Mike Harkey.

Assuming, for the moment, that all of Teixeria, Dunn and Griffey are available, I believe Teixeria should be priority 1 (maybe 2 and 3 as well) for Hendry. Wouldn't you think?

Best player, but not the best fit for the Cubs.

Some of the rumored packages for Tex are pretty darn scary.

BOS: Youkilis + Lester

ATL: Salty + Andrus + prospect

LAD: Loney + Ethier + prospect

Those are some stiff pricetags right there.

The most substantial rumor coming out of Dallas is the Braves: Salty + Elvis Andrus + Matt Harrison.

We definitely can't top that.

Of Dunn and Griffey who is the better fit?

Griffey by a mile. Of course he would be more expensive in trading chips and salary, but there's no doubt Griffey is the better player and the better fit for the Cubs.

Dunn's been just as good as or better than Griffey most of the past four or five years, especially when you factor in injuries. I'd much rather have Dunn.

I could have sworn I heard on the news that Tex is a rental...and the Rangers want the world for him, too.

Someone was saying Boras might start negotiations @ 20mil/yr for him.

Rich Hill, Felix Pie and Sean Gallagher would probably get them interested. I wouldn't do that though.

BP discussed trading Tex the other day. Daniels has no choice but to ask for the moon, not just because Tex is a fairly young, very good player, but also because Daniels has been thoroughly embarrassed in his two previous big trades:

December 8, 2005: Alfonso Soriano traded by the Texas Rangers to the Washington Nationals for Brad Wilkerson, Terrmel Sledge, and Armando Galarraga (minors).

January 6, 2006: Rangers trade Adrian Gonzalez, Terrmel Sledge and Chris Young to the San Diego Padres for Adam Eaton, Akinori Otsuka, and Billy Killian (minors).

If Daniels makes another trade as bad as those two, he'll be out of a job.

Wow. I think it's hard to even TRY to conjure up a trade that lopsided. Texas should never trade with any team ever again, for their own good.

How good are Matt Harrison and this Elvis character as far as prospect level?

Scouts love Elvis and he is really young, but he has not put up the numbers. If I were the Braves I would definitely sell on him while his value is still high, however he could end up being really good.
