he probably makes the most sense out of all the potential targets mentioned to date IF he can play RF.

he's only had 15 abs as a RF in the last three years, so I'm not sure how likely that is.

He has played some OF before, and he used to play 3b so he probably has an average arm at least. I don't think he's the fastest guy in the world, but neither is Cliff Floyd.

If we had the prospects necessary to get Tex, we'd have a killer lineup. He'd give us the lefty bat (well, switch hitter) in the middle of the order that we need. Soriano, Lee, Tex, Ramirez...that's a nice lineup...

I'm sure any discussion would start with Pie. Do you think Pie, Gallagher, Petrick or Veal get it done?

I'd have no problem with a deal centered around Pie and Marshall/Hill.

I'd rather not give up any of our current starters.

I don't see Tex as a possibility. The asking is probably too high and if you are going to trade for Tex, chances are you are looking for a long term deal for him. There's no way the Cubs do that now that the team is being sold.

Start with Pie, Gallagher, and Moore, go from there.

Make sure we leave Petrick out of the mix! If we have to mix another starter in the trade maybe throw Marshall or Hill in there to get the deal done. One last thing we need to get something beside Tex, we would need another minor leaguer or two like we got in the Nomar deal with Murton.

Throw in Marshall or Hill, but whatever you do, don't include Petrick???

Guys can't he opt out at years end? If so why trade good prospects for a rental?

I think you're mistaking him with Adam Dunn. Dunn has a option for 2008, but if he's traded the option goes away and he becomes a free agent.

Oh then yeah, go get him. But, like others I doubt we have what it takes to get the job done.

Any deal for Tex has to start with Jones, to balance some salary.

Then add a group of young cheap guys to that.

With Jones gone, that kinda takes Pie off the table (we'll need a CF).

Texas needs pitching and OF, so sort through names like Hill, Marshall, Gallagher, and Veal; Murton and Kroeger.

Maybe you can pay part of the tab with a superutility guy like Theriot.

Personally I think you're most of the way there with Hill or Marshall. I'd prefer to send Veal or Gallagher though.

So maybe:

Jones

Murton

Veal/Gallagher

Or...

Jones

Kroeger

Theriot

Veal/Gallagher

Toss in a Moore or a Fox if that's what it takes to push a deal through.

Personally I'd rather spend less and go get an actuall RF -- Nady.

If I'm Daniels I hang up the phone right then. I've got teams willing to trade me the prospects I want without taking on their crap.

you're forgetting that Daniels is not good at his job
