Levine was on ESPN Radio earlier and described Ward's injury as serious. Says he could be out for the rest of the season. If so, add another item to Hendry's shopping list.

I don't understand how he "seriously" injures himself while falling down trying to catch a popup. It's not like he overexerted himself. He basically just fell down like a wet noodle.

He is a big boy, that is alot of momentum.

But seriously, losing Ward and his 8 RBI's this season will just "kill us". Not good news at all. Cancel the season folks.

its just that this is the one time we need a real 1B. we dont want todd walker or derosa playing there again

While losing Ward isn't a big blow, citing his 8 RBIs is a pretty poor argument to make, especially considering how often he plays.

In only 63 AB he has a .456 OBP and a .900 OPS.

If it is a serious injury to keep him out for the year then it has to be a tear. Since I didnt see the game did he pull up before the play?

Didn't look like it at all. But I didn't pay super close attention.

No, he didn't pull up on the play at all. He just sort of whiffed at the popup and fell over. Didn't look bad at all.

It's not a huge loss, but the man is clearly our best pinch hitter. It's going to make at least a modicum of difference.

Yeah, sample size is my point. He only has 8 RBI, but its only in 63 AB (79 PA) in which he's been pretty productive. I don't think he'll keep those numbers up, but the RBIs are a completely useless way to measure what he's done this year.

Well, if you want to go back to last year's numbers he had a .380 OBP and a 926 OPS in 130 AB's. Like someone else said, it's not a huge deal if they can find a big upgrade in right field and Floyd can become the big pinch hitter off of the bench, but it still hurts. Other teams were basing some of their strategy on Ward in the late innings a decent amount of the time-from who they brought in to pitch to the intentional walks that he received.

There are only three games remaining in Lee's suspension. We can live with Derosa at first for that short period of time.

I'm watching the Comcast replay now as I was at the game and wanted to see what happened. To me it looks like he fell and missed the ball *because* his leg gave out- as in he got injured running in. And he knew it too, because as soon as he got to his feet he motioned for the trainer. He seems like a great guy, and I feel bad for him because that sort of scenario spells something serious.

The only way one of the two doesn't go on the DL is if they're both out for a maximum of two days. Otherwise one of them will have to go on the DL. There's just no other option as the Cubs can't live with 2 players on the bench who just can't play.

Let me be clear - I don't view Ward's injury as an enormous loss, but he does back-up Lee pretty nicely and has done well in his PH role. He's a nice player to have around on a winning team.

So how long is Ward out, anyone really know yet?

With Floyd gimpy, Ward out -- there goes our bench power. All gone.

I would guess with Jones heating up this pretty much nixes any chance of trading the Jockster. The power's got to come from somewhere, and Lee & ARam isn't enough.

Hendry just did an interview on the SCORE. He said there would likely be a roster move today because Ward is headed for the DL.

Jh on the score just a second ago a=said Ward is going on the DL and someones going to be called up today.....Maybe the little redhead is gonna be called up?

I wouldn't mind it, but again that's a rather large loss in power considering Floyd's a gimp, Rammy needs rest, and Lee is in suspension.

We now need a power bat, ladies & gents.

We've needed one for awhile, before this injury happend. Floyd isnt hitting for power, Jones isnt hitting for power , Therio Fontenot and Kendall dont have much power, so that leaves Soriano and ARam and neither of them are really setting the world on fire in the HR department. It would be a big boost if Lees "power surge" continues the entire 2nd half.

It's Cedeno time!

Keep showcasing Jones while he's hot. Slide Floyd over to 1b and get Ronny back up here. Now please.

Floyd @ 1B?

Hmm, I don't think I like Floyd at first. He hasn't played there in 10 years, and he only played there 9 games in 97. But this year the cubs just keep on surprising me.

Sure, why not?

It's been 10 years since he's played there, but we aren't asking him to do it for an extended period of time.
