I know DFAing a player clears their 25 man roster spot... does it clear the 40 man too?

 

i think that depends on the type of waivers they clear and whether they have a major league contract. Usually if they have a ML contract, they have to be on the 40.

I know he's from near Kankakee. did he grow up as a cub fan? If so this has to be even a bigger thrill for him than for your average guy getting the call for the first time.

I like this move. I have no idea what Petrick can do at this level, but it is quite common for teams to hit lightning in a bottle with young bullben arms from the minors. Many of times, hitters just can get used to a certain guys stuff for a while.

 

I'll take this move over paying an overrated garbage veteran any day of the week.

I don't understand why we need LHP. There are RHP who can get lefty hitters out just as well. It's not like Eyre has been good. I'm sure we could find a RHP who could more than outperform Eyre.

Wuertz, Guzman, Petrick, and Marmol all could be awesome relievers. Notice the irony that by the end of the year they could be the Cubs best relievers, and look....none of them are named Eyre, Dempster, or Howry...and none of them were given large contracts.

 

Note to Cubs.....build your bullpen homegrown. How much clearer does it have to get?

Now that the Jacque story seems to be over, I'd like to say I'm getting really concerned about Dempster. He's been pretty good this year. Howry is likely to get the job, but he's been up and down. Don't have much faith in Petrick being much good right now.

If Demp is going on the DL I'd like to see Marmol given the chance to close out games, but I know it's not going to happen. We're stuck with Howry as closer.

I like Marmol in the fireman role during the 6/7/8 inning. It's more important.

I'd assume this would be the case.

 

I dont know what else they can really do. Unless they DFA Izturis =P~
