I am really excited by watching Marmol's progress this year. He seems like he is finding himself as a late-inning power arm. He's been flat nasty most of the time out this year. It's also nice to see our homegrown talent producing: Wuertz, Marmol, Pie etc. , but I digress. What is the consensus on Marmol's future? Late inning power arm, a la Dotel of a few years back? Or is he a closer candidate for the future? The only concern is he seems like his control can get away from him, so he will have to keep his walks under control.

I think his ceiling is a lights out-dominant closer. With a more likely outcome being a very consistent closer who is slightly above the league average in all closer metrics (Whip, k/9, BAA, etc...)

I'd still rather see if he could stick in the rotation than get 3-4 IP out of him a week.

he doesn't have a decent third pitch, and I remember BA talking about him as a potential closer at least two or three handbooks ago. His command has always been marginal, and this can get him in more trouble - both in terms of poor performance and pitch counts - as a starter. To me, his skillset right now screams reliever. Plus Gallagher and Atkins profile as future starters, and Hill, Marshall, Lilly and Marquis should be here for at least the next three years. I like Marmol right where he is.

With the way he's been playing lately, ](*,)

Lilly has not been too hot either.

He has all the tools to become an elite closer. However, I still question his ability to stay healthy down the road.

Given that he is a converted infielder, shouldn't it help that he has less mileage on his arm?

I hear he has a dramatic vaulted ceiling.

I hear his floor is great too. Premium laminate wood flooring throught the condo. Freak sweet.

helps a little, but the bigger worry is that it's a high-effort delivery. Still, not everyone is going to have a pretty delivery.

Is there such a thing as 'premium laminate floor'?

I always assumed that premium generally denoted that it was not a laminate, but rather a natural surface.

Depends on how you look at it. Some players are able to convert into becoming a pitcher and some end of blowing out their arms trying to. Im not going to go into the mechanical side of it because the majority of the people would not understand it.

Marmol is one pitch away from having the ceiling of a #3-4 starter. Dominant fastball and slider combo. If his changeup ever develops (probably not gonna happen in the pen) then he could start for a lot of teams.

Thanks. I'd hate to have us bring you down to our level.

I young grasshopper, but one day wish to branch out into the world with your vast knowledge of these "mechanics" you speak of, sensai.

Not understand or just disagree?

I realize that we're not all quality pitchers like yourself with complete understanding of the human anatomy and how pitching mechanics affect the body, but I think you would be surprised what people are capable of comprehending. Why don't you humor us and try to explain it?
