I'm pretty sure I know what is happening. There has been little to no talk of Kerry Wood's progress as of late, and it's because he has been in South Korea getting fitted for a An-Je Bionic Arm. The Arm will allow him to throw in excess of 115 MPH, and he will immediately slide into both the #1 and #2 slots in the rotation.

Of course, Zambrano, Dempster and EPatt will be Yankees shortly thereafter.

Actually, I was thinking the surprise or whatever might be something to do with Kerry Wood. Its been real quiet on him, and maybe hes ready. Ya I know wishful thinking but oh well.

I am guessing we go to Texas for Otsuka or Gagne. Their season is pretty well shot now that Blalock is down and probably done for the year (3 months is a lot of time to lose).

JJ, Murton, or maybe even DeRosa back to them, although i think it is June 1st or 15th that we have to wait to do that, should get that deal done. Texas outfield is the Bermuda Triangle right now. No one has a single clue what is going on out there. Sosa is the only thing resembling a major leaguer out there at the moment. Lofton has no idea at this point.

Lou is changing his standard lunch order from tuna on toast, cole slaw, and coffee to chicken salad on rye, untoasted, potato salad, and a cup of tea.

it worked for george, why not lou.

1) lou is going to a seven man rotation with each guy throwing their normal side session in the bullpen.

2) Zambrano is going to start playing rightfield on the days he isn't pitching

3) tramell decides that he is still better than izturis and suits up

4) Zambrano, who is ambidextrious (sp?) pitches right handed monday, and left handed wednesday

5). lou takes over gm duties, jim Hendry finds a job at subway and is quickly fired when all of the cold cuts are missing.

6) Murton, Jones, and Floyd are all traded. New outfield Soriano, Pagan, Pie

7) Ichiro stays in San Diego and joins the cubs after the mariners recieve eyre, Jones, and a minor league pitcher.

8) no more go cubs go after wins, that song is so lame!

9). Hendry suits up to play first base in derek lee's absence. Dies on firs bunt attempt.

10). Derek Lee to right, marmol to setup, wood to the pen, eyre to the concession stand and jones/murton for a first baseman.

no ones mentioned the wild card because he's kinda forgotten. mark prior. The cubs could have decided to finally part with him. Some team with alot of money might decide, they'll pay him this year on the chance he comes back next year. It's crazy, it's out there, it's highly unlikely. But I just like to talk crazy sometimes. He could be part of an overall package.
I don't think it is allowable to trade a player on the DL.

technically, mark prior isnt on the DL.

My guess would be something like Jones for a reliever and a prospect, then Pie called back up.

Lou made it sound like the changes would involve the pitching staff.

As in the starting 5? Or the bullpen?

I was thinking the reliever we'd acquire would be the change in the bullpen along with Marmol, but it's obviously all just conjecture at this time. Probably won't even be anything significant besides another minor league pitcher called up.

Monday will be the big trade with the Texas Rangers.

Rangers send: Sammy Sosa, Eric Gagne, Michael Young

We send: Matt Murton, Ryan Theriot, Sean Marshall, and Scott Eyre. Plus prospects as needed. We eat all cash.

And in the end, we pray Gagne doesn't break, Sosa isn't a fluke, and Young can bounce back.

Hilarity ensues...

The Suntimes speculated (even though Lou denied it), that Lou could consider using the Bullpen to start the games and put in the starters after that (Lou has apparently contemplated this before with other teams). Rich Hill even chimed in saying he wouldn't mind it, but again, this is very unlikely considering Lou was quoted refuting it.

After thinking, wouldn't Tuesday be Marshalls regular scheduled day to pitch? It would make sense that we would wait until Monday to bring him up considering he'd be of no use now (and we can use whoever else on the roster if needed in a game) considering he's a starter.

I tell you, Mark Prior is sure an interesting chip. If (key word) Dr. Andrews did fix him up and he heals, that's a top of the rotation starter under your control for two years. I could see a team that's hopeless for 2007 pulling the trigger with a hitter they aren't expecting to get that kind of a return on.

A Pat Burrell type maybe.

He is, but it's the minor league DL. I'm not sure if the same rules apply to the minor league DL about trading players.

so umm guzman to the pen? jesus bad shake for him. he didnt pitch poorly.

It's in the other thread. Here's Lou's exact quote.

"Look, we're going to put Guzman back in the bullpen, that is a certainty," Piniella said. "With the leg cramps and so forth, there's no sense getting into that."

Sigh.

Dempster blows Angel's win so let's punish Angel!

Angel's never thrown a ton of innings in his career. Part of his job as a starter is to give a good amount of innings. Also, he's thrown the ball well in limited innings. Where has the problem been? The bullpen, where he's being sent, so this could be a help to the team is Marshall (I'm guessing) continues on this solid year.

The lack of logic is stunning, simply stunning.

Starting pitching = Strenght

Bulpen percieved weakness (not necessarily a valid reflection of reality)

Remove starting pitchers weakens the starters. The starters are weakened the bullpen gets more work. When a bullpen works too much it gets weaker.

A bullpen is used to help preserve vicotory. It's hard when there is nothing to preserve.

Marshall is not a good bet to be a decent 5th starter, neither is Miller.

I find you making a few of assumptions along with your logic.

Guzman has pitched well as a starter, but if he can't consistently go deep into the game, he is not helping his bullpen.

Also, Marshall vs. Guzman isn't as clearcut as you make it out to be. Sure, we can all break out our jump to conclusions mats after 3 starts, but look at their historic major league and minor league performances and consider who also would be more suited in the bullpen.
