i cant see how moving anyone out of the rotation could be justified. lilly, marquis and hill have been great all season long. angel guzman has done very well in his three starts. he hasnt gone very long, but hes never thrown more than 82 pitches in a start. umm i guess lou could go all charlie manuel on us and make z our closer putting marmol, marshall or even dempster in the rotation, but uhh.....i sure hope not

ESPN 1000 played a sound bite from Lou wherein he indicates that many changes will be coming on Monday, but what he would not specifiy what they would be. Levine speculates Marmol could be the closer.

Any reason given for why the changes coming had to wait until Monday, and not be enacted today?

Could they be working a trade or two, and they don't expect them to be complete until Monday?

I'm guessing this is part of it. Lou asked Hendry to make some changes and Hendry asked for the weekend to negotiate.

Anyone else here think Dempster won't be getting the call anymore in save situations? I hope he's considering Wuertz for the job. I bet Cotts is on the short list to go down since he still has options as well.

I'm guessing every option is open right now, including shaking up roles, closer by committee or even trading Dempster.

Dempster has done pretty well. I have no idea what is going to happen. Erye has been bad and came to camp out of shape (I think). I'm guessing he's gone.

The problem is that the bullpen is a secondary problem and becuase of the timing of the troubles it is getting all the bame.

Like I said before the season started, Hendry gave Lou a chess set with too many pawns and not enough knights and expects him to win.

You only get two knights.

We don't have our queen.

And we start every game three moves from checkmate.

I think today answered that, and I didn't think he'd be replaced as closer yet anyway (unless he's part of a trade). Admittedly he was worse than putrid last night, but all relievers have stink jobs every now and then, and he's been very good for the most part this year. And today he came right back and was outstanding. I think his job as closer is safe for now (again, barring a trade), but all bets are off if he has a repeat of last night soon.

speculation? Lou seemed really . . . um. . "giddy" in letting that little flirt tease out. "alot of changes"?

What's going on. Is it going to only be the pitching, or will there by some offensive moves as well? What could be so good that they felt the need to have Lou "tease" all cubs fans with it.

Marshall being called up? Eyre being moved somehow?

Gooz better stay in the rotation.

Sounded like "more" than Marshall being called up. Why would he be acting so smirky and giddy if it was just Marshall being called up. If you're going to call Marshall up, call him up. You don't give the tickly "hints" Lou was giving to the press today if it was just a promotion. I think it's a trade.

I'd have to watch it again. But "alot of changes" came out of his mouth. As well as "you'll be suprised". Seems like he's building up something more. That's all I'm sayin. .

ok, this is totally out of left field but what if it was Jeff Smjardja (sorry for spelling)???

I know it is crazy, but what if lou thinks because of the whole football thing he can handle the pressure.

Before you tell me how dumb I am--I know this is a crazy idea, but thought it would be fun to throw it out there

Samardzija is struggling at high-A. I don't see a triple promotion in his future.

My guess:

1. Eyre traded (he can only refuse a trade to 10 teams, so 19 others are fair game). I'll take nothing for him just to be rid of his salary. Plus, I think Lou dislikes his fat body and his lousy attitude. Eyre is a "Dusty-type" guy, not a Lou guy IMO. He's gone.

2. Marmol to setup man.

3. Guzman to setup man. Even when he pitches well, you never get a long outing from Angel. And I think Lou is still taken with how well Gooz pitched as a reliever early in the season and in Arizona. Guzman didn't do his starting pitching potential any help by leaving the Mets game early with his hammy issue.

4. Marshall to rotation. He showed last year he can get big league hitters out.

New bullpen rotation would be Dempster still as closer, Marmol, Guzman and Cotts get the 7th/8th inning jobs, Wuertz and Howry demoted to middle relief, Ohman keeps his LOOGY job for now.

no ones mentioned the wild card because he's kinda forgotten. mark prior. The cubs could have decided to finally part with him. Some team with alot of money might decide, they'll pay him this year on the chance he comes back next year. It's crazy, it's out there, it's highly unlikely. But I just like to talk crazy sometimes. He could be part of an overall package.
