Personally, I'd love to see some teams like the Royals, Devil Rays, and Marlins retracted. I'm sure there are a couple of more in there too. It would be better for the game because the league wouldn't be watered down with pitchers that should still be in the minors. What do you guys think?

Will never happen.

New revenue plan is working. Everyone is making some money, or has the option too. Baseball is really, really cashing in at the moment.

Player Union would never allow it either under current agreement. They would lose too many jobs.

I think the Devil Rays will be a good team here in a few years. The only club I would get rid of would be the Royals. I don't think they will be good anytime soon.

I'm definitely in favor of retracting the Florida teams. They simply don't draw enough fans. Although several people acted like they were Marlins fans when the team went to the World Series...they just don't support them during the rest of the year. I think there's just too many other things for people in Florida to do.

As far as the Royals go, I think they should stick around. They actually have a history and they have fans...they just happen to suck. If they didn't suck so much I'm sure they'd have more fans show up at the ballpark. I can't say the same for either of the Florida teams (unless they are actually in a World Series.)

Do you think it would be better to retract the teams or relocate them?[/code]

The Royals have a ton of history and a decently big fan base throughout the midwest. There's tons of fans here in Iowa. Contracting them would be a travesty.

I pretty much agree with everything, but I don't like the fact that the Royals don't seem to want to get better. It seems like the Pirates and Brewers at least try. The Royals just seem to be in it solely to make money. I hate the Florida teams because of their fans.

Now, retract or relocate... if they could find a good market (like OK City), then I'm all for relocating, but I don't know if they can.

No on retraction. Maybe a move to another town, but it's nice that more players get a shot at the major leagues with more teams playing.

I assume you've never heard of Alex Gordon, Mark Teahen, or Billy Butler?

Or about the resurgence of Grienke?

I think you'll find the Royals more and more competitive in coming years.

Well if they were in it solely to make money, they of course would want to win more, because winning draws fans.

Contraction wouldn't solve a bloody thing. We complain too much as is about good ballplayers not getting jobs at the major league level. Reducing the job pool would only exacerbate the situation.

I wouldn't blame the fans in Florida for the way that the ownership groups of the Florida teams have treated them. I think that one, probably the Marlins, will move, but it makes sense to have a team in Central Florida, especially if they can start winning, which is pretty tough in the division they play in.

Any team can develop a rabid fan following in a decent market. Places like Tampa, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City have proven that they can support major sports franchises despite having troubled baseball teams. The problem is, because of bad luck, poor ownership, and inept administration, they've managed to alienate most of their fans in impressive fashion. It's kind of like the Blackhawks in Chicago in some regards.

Personally, I'm not in favor of contracting teams when the owners have been so terrible.

The Pirate owners are definitely only in it to make money. The Royals at least put up a front to pretend like they were trying this offseason. The Pirates didn't even do that.

They acquired Adam LaRoche, that's pretty good.

Why must you hate Luke Hochevar so much?

I know. How dare the Marlins management only give them 2 world series champions in the past 10 years!

I'm surprised no one has said this yet:

Contract the deadbirds and whitesux.

Either that, or expand the league to 1000 teams so that I have a chance at making the league.

I don't think the talent is any more watered down than it was in the "golden years" of baseball. Look at baseball-reference.com, the percentage of crappy players in the 50's-70's was probably greater than the percentage of crappy players today.

For their closer and a decent prospect. They've spent no money on the team since they re-signed Kevin Young.
