He hasn't thrown more than 86 innings in a season in his professional career. I really doubt he threw that many in any of his college seasons either. I think he's going to hit a wall, nobody can just not throw 100 innings in a season for 15 years and all of a sudden be able to go twice that, never mind the quality of those innings.

I've found it is really hard to have an intelligent conversation about baseball with anyone outside of internet message boards. Actually its kind of hard on message boards too, just not as hard.

I've found it is really hard to have an intelligent conversation on anything anywhere with anyone.

It really is just infuriating. I'm not sure what's worse to get ignorant opinions from: fans of teams I hate or fans of the Cubs. Other teams you have that rage of you're so wrong and I hate you. Cubs you're thinking you're so wrong and you're making us look like asses.

You know, me too. Then again, my IQ is 36.

Seriously, who didn't see this coming? Cardinals sign no big-name free agents and put a mediocre relief pitcher and a mediocre pitcher coming off surgery. Didn't we all know that these scrubs would turn out great?

It's just amazing...Year after year. He can't keep this up. Right?

God, Cubs are so lucky. They make a deal for Michael Barrett and he suddenly turns into a middle-of-the-order Silver Slugger. Geez, does everything they touch turn to gold?

I always liken pitchers in St. Louis to running backs in Denver. It's their system. It's their defense and their pitching coach. It's not luck.

It's way too early to take Looper's numbers seriously, though.

Through 7 starts (and one relief appearance) last year, Sidney Ponson had a 2.93 ERA.

Ponson's peripherals weren't nearly as good as Loopers at this point. Looper isn't great but as long as he doesn't wear down I think he'll be Suppan 2.0.

Yeah, I agree completely. I'm just saying five starts is a very small sample size.

I agree completely. It's especially bad at the baseball games themselves.

Don't look at me. If I had any baseball intelligence, I'd be posting about the Pens here. I root for a team that hans had a winning record in 14 seasons.

you're on a message board of a team that hasn't won a championship in 100 years. Now that is stupid.

Okay well I'm skipping ahead to the end of next season... going out on a limb and assuming that this bunch of losers that Jim Hendry has assembled will not win the World Series in 2007 or 2008

I think it's OK to round up in this case.

That's probably a pretty safe bet.

You need different friends/family.

When your best friends are the ones that link you to FJM.com and lend you Moneyball, you know they're good people.

The cardinals were only planning on using Looper as a stop gap until Mulder came back... so they weren't really planning on him starting for 100+ innings... but at the same time, they should have been prepared in cause mulder wasn't ready at all.
