Dave Kaplan just reported on WGN Radio that MP will have exploratory arthroscopic surgery tomorrow.

Exploratory huh, classic.

Its like the kid that goes to the nurse's office at school wanting to go home because they are "sick."

I bet Prior didn't win any perfect attendence awards.

Exploratory surgery isn't to gauge if there is a problem or not, it's to try to isolate where a problem is. It's done on the shoulder frequently because shoulder injuries are so hard to diagnose-I think the criticism of Prior is unwarranted in this case.

I'm kidding.

Just seems that is there was that big of a problem it wouldn't be that hard to pinpoint.

I don't think we will be hearing good news about Prior or Wood ever.

fixed for ya. I love both Wood and Prior. But honestly we should just let go, it is prob. over.

There are just so many things that can go wrong to cause those symptoms, and some things doctors cannot explain yet. I'm not sure they'll ever know for sure what's wrong-medicine has simply not advanced far enough in that type of area to be able to catch a problem like that in some cases.

I still love Mark and Kerry. They did what no Cubs pitchers have done since '08. They got us a series win in the playoffs. I only wish that someone other than Dusty managed that series against the Marlins. Had we got to the Yankees and won the World Series, this would hurt a lot less now.

Oh jeeesh. Dusty sends out Wood and Prior in games 6&7....they both lost. The players lost that series. Not Baker.

He was ok for the season...and the series against the Braves.....just that Marlin series eh?

Im not a Dusty fan either.....but blaming him for anything and everything....is.....just wrong.

Yeah like maybe if he had a half of a brain we pitch to Lenny Harris in game one and we sweep. But, no Dusty, in his infinite wisdom, decides to attack Mike Lowell. But, your right. In a short series your manager should force you to win 5 games instead of the 4 because he doesn't ever want to admit he was wrong carrying Lenny Harris around as a starter for half the year.

Or maybe he could have looked across the diamond during game 7 and seen Beckett relieving. He possibly could have thought, hey Z could do that. But, wait man we got to save Z for game one of the world series. That we never made it to.

Or perhaps in game 6 when Bartman touches the ball and Alou throws a hissy fit, our manage sees a 22 year old kid on the mound and says, hey I should pry go out and talk to him to tell him no harm done. But, nope we let him fight through that one on his own. Then 8 runs later we are cooked.

Your are right though Dusty definately managed that series flawlessly. How silly of me to think that he screwed us royally in that series.

I'm actually glad he's getting cut open... I'm pretty tired of this "rest & rehab" business because it's just not working. At least now they're going to root around and find out if there's something wrong.

(also when I hear exploratory surgery, I think of Turk diving into the patient, replacing the tumor with a satchel, and darts flying through the colon)

uhh, dusty left prior in for way, way too long with a huge lead. the injuries started a few short months after the abuse he took down the stretch and in the playoffs.

wood was pushed too hard, too. his injuries started recurring early in 2004. this is not a coincidence. this is directly dusty baker's fault.

I shall put no direct blame on Dusty Baker for what happened. My labrum was torn to hell, and I threw 0 pitches in 2003. Had Wood and Prior been yanked after 85 pitches in each of their starts, they could still have the problems they have today. The excessive pitch counts probably exacerbated the problem, and Dusty made a lot of stupid decisions on when to remove pitchers, but there's no guarantee it wouldn't have happened under anyone else's watch.

i had exploratory surgery on my heel after i stepped on a toothpick and half of said toothpick broke off under my skin.

true story.

Me too, only with a needle. I win.

And it's too bad some of the geniuses that talk about Mark Prior every chance they get haven't been there in his career telling him to tough it out. Think of the millions he's lost just by not listening to their advice. Not only does he not have a penis now, but he doesn't have all that cash either!!! IDIOT!!

If the Cubs history with ability to diagnose injuries and the timetable for return holds to form, I expect an announcement next week that Prior's right arm has been amputated.

The Cubs will then issue a press release stating that Prior will be expected back in 4 to 6 weeks.

I LOLed.

My sentiments exactly.

It will be interesting to hear what Andrews has to say after Prior's scope today. A lot of people are assuming this will be the final fix for Prior, but I would not jump the gun.

It's possible, but unlikely that anything significant will be found, especially after all the previous exams and tests Prior has had. More than likely, they will find normal wear and tear (irritation, scaring, calcification) that 90% of major league pitchers would have in the shoulder joint. Regardless, I think Prior has pitched his last game as a Cub, and possibly as a major league pitcher.

Yea....it is silly of you. We could not get out of the 8th with a lead...and Wood did not win the following night. We lost. Manager was not on the field at the time...and our two aces did not get the job done. But lets ignore that...and blame the old guy sitting in the dugout.

I never said he managed anything flawlessly. We lost that series because our players did not execute and win when it was on the line. We had it in the bag...and blew it. Period.
