Actually, I think they're cotton.

I'm afraid when they cut him open that his muscles are gonna pour out of his arm like those baby snakes coming out of that snake in "Temple of Doom"

Me too, only with a needle. I win.

And it's too bad some of the geniuses that talk about Mark Prior every chance they get haven't been there in his career telling him to tough it out. Think of the millions he's lost just by not listening to their advice. Not only does he not have a penis now, but he doesn't have all that cash either!!! IDIOT!!

I had exploratory surgery, if you want to call it that, on my knee when I fell and had a piece of metal jabbed into it. Only the doctor didn't feel like like doing actually surgery so he just used local anesthetic and the sharp beveled tip of a large hypodermic needle to do the "exploring".

sounds like we'll hear something tomorrow

CHICAGO -- Cubs pitcher Mark Prior underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder as scheduled, and the team did not plan on releasing any details about the procedure until Wednesday.

Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala., according to a Cubs spokesman. Prior, 26, has been on the disabled list at least once every year since he was called up in May 2002, but had never previously had surgery on his shoulder.

At this point I wouldn't be shocked if Prior had a completely torn labrum, they operated on it and he's out 18-24 months.

I wouldn't be shocked about anything at this point.

Per the update on ESPN 1000 just now, it sounded like Bruce Levine said they found "hot spots" in his shoulder that they had to clean out. No word on how long he'll be out.

If that happens to be the case, then I don't expect Prior to ever be what he once was. Good luck trying to come back from a major shoulder operation like that.

If thats the case, they probably found calcification in certain parts of the shoulder. I had the same thing in college (20 years ago), and they gave me a couple cortisone shots and I was good. If this was all they found, I would be a little surprised, because you could probably find hot spots in 50% of pitchers if you scoped them tomorrow.

Well I guess that good news for 2008?

What an incredible waste.

This "Cub fan" thing. How do I find a cure?

Personally, I have been actively following the Red Sox this season.

Yes, I can try to do that but my heart isn't in to it.

How could something that severe have eluded all of the various non-surgical examinations and imaging he's already had?

It's not like up until now he's only been seen by guys that stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Great point. If there was significant tissue damage, its highly unlikely it would have evaded all of the advanced diagnostic procedures that were completed. I am betting they discovered some typical irriatation, and they cleaned it up and that was it.

There was some fraying of the labrum too. They're looking at him to begin throwing in January. So basically when I was ripped in a previous thread when I said that he had what Kerry Wood had in 2005, my critics were wrong. I'll repeat what I said then. Since he has better mechanics than Wood, he should be more than serviceable again. Matt Morris had the same thing.

The question is whether the Cubs control him through 2008 or 2009. Heck, they might non-tender him this winter and his Cub career is over.

Just curious...Why wasn't this done last year?

Did I miss the obituary on Kerry Wood? Has there been anything on him lately?

He's been dead for months. That skinny kid we saw in spring training turned out to be his kid brother.

When I first saw wood in spring training my first thought was "cancer patient"

Clearly dropped a ton of weight quickly and the short hair
