Mark Bulger just got an extension. Wow thats a lot of money for Bulger, who to me, is not an elite QB.

He's not elite, but the true elites are signing those $100+ million deals and Bulger is just a step below them. A lot of those 10/$110-115m deals were also signed 2-3 years ago, when the cap was smaller. Considering the inflation seen at other positions, this doesn't seem that far out of line for a guy who is good for a 90+ rating year in and year out.

In addition, you won't meet a better guy. In the increasingly image conscious NFL, having a guy like Marc as the face of your franchise is a good thing.

I just found out I'm going to Raiders training camp for a day next week as a media member. Even though the team sucks, I'm really looking forward to it.

That's freaking cool, my friend. While I don't get to go to any NFL games, a kid from one of the schools I cover signed with Tennessee this year and it sounds like I'm going to get to attend five Vol games this year in the press box. Being at as small a paper as I am, that's a pretty big deal.

Be sure to tell Jamarcus that he's awesome.

If he's even there. He's still in Alabama right now because he doesn't have a contract.

Covering big time college games is something I would love to do as well. I didn't even know our paper did this. I think it might be something my editor is offering to me because I'm a Raiders fan.

Wow...this guy doesn't think much of the Cowboys this season...

http://www.nflgridirongab.com/2007/08/01/breaking-down-the-nfc-east/

I agree with him about Romo though.

I think everyone always assumes the 2 NFC wildcards will come out of the East because those teams are so tough. I think if McNabb is healthy, the Eagles run away with that division. The Giants aren't gonna be very good, especially if Strahan stays away. The Cowboys will be better than 6-10, but they may be just a .500 team. They failed down the stretch last year and didn't get any better. I've seen plenty of places predicting the Redskins to have a good year. Why? QB situation shaky. WR's shaky. OL and RBs are good, but teams are gonna dare them to throw to their sub 6' WRs and have success.

I actually got to cover one Vol game last year - the near loss to Kentucky. I loved the experience, got free (good) food in the press box and it was a very unique perspective.

I have a feeling my publisher is doing this for the same reason as yours though. We're only a twice weekly paper and, even though we're just 15 minutes south of Knoxville, there's no way we could compete with the News-Sentinel (the major Knoxville paper). But, I guess the local tie is enough to warrant 5 games this year and I'm not complaining. :D

Looks like the Browns are getting fed up with Quinn not agreeing to a contract.

Link.

The Browns don't think Quinn should be paid more money than the 22nd pick deserves. Their argument is that Quinn was taken where he was for a reason and that they shouldn't have to pay a premium for him.

"If you're not going to rank the players one through 22 or one through 32, then there's no reason to have a draft," Savage said. "We should just have free agency for college players. The draft is the structure that was set up so that there would be some order to it.

The Browns are really being hypocritical here.

First off, they negotiated with Joe Thomas. During those negotiations, they told him that he shouldn't get as much money as last year's #3 pick Vince Young, because Vince is "a QB and QB's get paid a premium"

Now, they say that Brady was taken at 22 for a reason. Three things come to mind here:

1) Brady is a QB, so he should be getting a premium just like you told Thomas.

2) Brady is only asking for around what the #19 or #20 pick gets-it's not like he's holding out for top 10 money.

3) The Browns tried to trade and pick Brady at #19 or #20! They just couldn't get anyone to trade with them until #22. Now you're going to hurt your franchise over like 1 million dollars (which is about all they are arguing over). It simply doesn't make sense.

Hell, I'M getting fed up with it. After all the goodwill generated by his more or less classy response to falling in the draft and the fact that he's on his hometown team, he's pissing it all away with this ridiculous holdout.

Go out there, play, and get your big payday with the next contract, Brady.

Personally, I think the Cowboys and Romo will be fine. It's a contract year for Romo.

I'm expecting 10 wins and I am expecting to see a lot more of Marion Barber who I think could really have a breakthrough year. The article putting them at 6-10 is just stupid. I think the Eagles right now are the team to beat, but this is the NFC and there is not much stability.

Colts DT Anthony McFarland out for the season with knee injury.

This definitely hurts their already shaky run defense.

The Indianapolis Colts might have to mount their Super Bowl defense without a big part of their defense -- tackle Anthony McFarland.

According to multiple sources, McFarland has informed teammates and close friends he suffered a serious knee injury in a training camp practice Friday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute. It's believed he tore a patella tendon, which likely would be season-ending.
