I was going through my closet this weekend, cleaning out old baseball stuff. As I was going through some old VINE LINES, I noticed that CM was one of their freelancers in the late 1990's. Given that she's used to writing positive pieces on the Cubs, I no longer question why she was hired for the website. Edited by thedaymen

that doesn't explain why she gets a vote for the HOF.

Before she worked for MLB.com, she was a baseball writer for AP and UPI for many years and a member of the BBWAA for more than the 10 required to vote for the Hall of Fame.

I know Carrie takes a lot of heat from people, but she has been nice in the past to communicate when I had a question about something.

Yes, she takes too much heat. She's just doing her job. I think of her the way I think of a George Stephanopolis or aTony Snow or any government spokesperson. Their job is to put a good spin on any news as it affects whomever they are working for.

I'm not going to go to Cubs.com to find breaking news or indepth analysis of a game.

Technically, she isn't a spokesperson or PR rep for the Cubs. She fancies herself a journalist.

So did Tony Snow.

nobody questions that she is nice. they question her work ethic (so many errors in her work) and her lack of baseball acumen beyond the traditional cliches (how's that for redundancy?). I believe that is also why her HOF vote is questioned - because she does not display competency.

Personally I don't understand why people expect such hard hitting in your face journalism from Carrie. I know that Cub fans are oppressed and everything, but I don't see her job description as being the hard hitting statistical analysis that everyone seems to expect.

Id like her to show more since she has a vote for something as well-known as the HoF.

I hope it is her. She could learn a lot by spending some time here. Then again, I'm not really Ronnie Woo Woo Wickers.

speaking of muskat...

Am I seeing a card on Ebay correctly -- did we let another great player go? Did Albert Pujols actually play for the Peoria Chiefs and was he actually signed by the Cubs to a Minor League contract? If so, why did we let him go and how did the Cardinals come about acquiring him?

-- Robert R., Chandler, Ind.

Pujols did play in Peoria, but that's when the Chiefs were the St. Louis Cardinals' Minor League team. By the way, check the 2007 schedule to see when the Peoria Chiefs play Fort Wayne. It'll be a matchup between two former Cubs. Ryne Sandberg now manages the Chiefs, and his former teammate, Doug Dascenzo, is manager of the Wizards.

Awful question by Robert. But it's even worse for Carrie to pick that question and respond to it in an article.

I don't know... there are a lot of stupid people out there who think the players are owned by the individual minor league teams and not the parent ballclub.

Totally agree. I recall a newspaper article in Jackson that had people complaining about the GM because he never keeps the good players like Prior, Garciaparra and Sosa.
