The Titans do not grant the Cowboys permission to talk to Jeff Fisher.

Excellent news. I saw that earlier, but the Titans site said that the Cowboys hadn't asked yet but even if they did, we wouldn't grant it.

I don't think Fisher would leave at this point. He's got a good young team and Floyd Reese (who he never got along with) is gone. There are not very many better jobs out there right now, in my opinion (no offense Cowboy fans  ).

And he doesn't have to deal with TO.

Cool. Now why would the Bears grant the cowboys permission? They would be stupid to. Lovie and Angelos are on the same page when it comes to talent. Jones is a freaking moran when it comes to talent.

It would depend on whether or not the Bears are going to offer a lucrative extension for Lovie, or if they feel they could get a nice compensation package for allowing him to go to Dallas. If Lovie doesn't get his contract extension, he's a lame duck coach next year, and that hardly ever goes well...

That's part of why I think the Titan job is better, no TO and the worst you have to deal with is Pacman. Though I'll admit, dealing with Pacman is tough enough, he has no discipline and takes little responsibility for his actions.

I think there's virtually no chance that the Bears don't extend Smith. He's the best coach they've had in years. He goes from a losing season to the Super Bowl in two years. If he isn't extended Angelo may as well resign because otherwise I think he'd be rightfully lynched.

I can understand why the Bears---inparticularly Angelo--- were hesitant about extending Smith, because they were worried they had another Jauron on their hands, meaning they had another fluky coach. But considering what Smith has done in 3 yrs with the Bears:

29-19 record.

2 playoff appearance (2-1 record)

A Super Bowl Appearance

A Coach of the Year Award

25-10 record against the NFC during time span, including 12-6 record against the NFC North.

Lovie Smith is so proven that he isn't a "fluke coach" like Jauron, and Smith is sooooooo going to get an extension sometime after the Super Bowl.

Bears president and CEO Ted Phillips is holding a news conference this morning at Halas Hall in front of a captive, overflow audience featuring national media.

Wouldn’t it be the perfect time to announce the well-deserved and long-overdue contract extension for underpaid coach Lovie Smith?

I haven't heard much about this news conference, but it would be the perfect time to announce an extension. Get the media focused on Jerry/Lovie for the week. Make those guys the story for now, and get rid of any potential controversy/distractions involving those contracts.

I've heard it's just about a bobblehead deal that Lovie just signed.

I'm curious if the distraction of Lovie possibly leaving would be the one thing that would bother the players off the field wise. I think it would be a very good move to have pounded this thing out now and get rid of the speculation.

B&B mentioned this yesterday. It could be news about Angelo getting an extension, which is likely to happen prior to Lovie's extension, or it could be an announcement that both are extended...

Or none of the above. Like my decisive reporting skills?

A team of two tails?

I'm guessing B&B will have fun with that quote.

It appears that the Cowboys coaching search is focusing on two candidates: Wade Phillips and Norv Turner. The decision hinges greatly on an interview with potential OC and current Dolphins QB coach, Jason Garrett.

Link.

According to ESPN,

The Cowboys' plan for replacing Parcells at this point is to determine whether Garrett as offensive coordinator can call plays, develop the offensive scheme and manage the offensive coaching staff and the players -- particularly Terrell Owens. If it is determined that Garrett, who has never called plays, can handle that much responsibility, then the Cowboys are expected to pursue San Diego defensive coordinator Wade Phillips to replace Parcells. If Jones decides that Garrett is not quite ready for that role, he would be hired as offensive coordinator and then paired with Norv Turner, who can handle the overall offense.

Garrett is a former backup to Troy Aikman whom Jones believes has the potential to become the Cowboys' head coach in two to three years.

The Bears are the cheapest franchise in the league. Lovie is the lowest paid coach. You think management is suddenly going to pony up big cash? I think they'd be just as happy to get a compensation package from Dallas for Lovie, promote Ron Rivera, and keep going with their miserly ways

I doubt it, especially since Rivera isn't on the same page as Angelo and isn't big on the Cover-2. Why is Lovie the lowest paid coach? Because he's on his first coaching contract, it doesn't necessarily mean the Bears are cheap (they are).

so what was the news conference about?

Angelo is really happy to have a Super Bowl team.

They did get pretty ticked at all the "Lovie to Dallas" rumors. They basically said if there is any attempt by Dallas to talk to Lovie or anything, they would take action through the league. They have no intention of letting anyone speak with Lovie.

blahblahblah

The Bears are not the cheapest franchise in the league. The amount of money they spent on signing bonuses in recent years was outstanding. Lovie signed his contract before the recent surge in salaries. Nobody cried about how low it was then. Now people are acting as though they've cut his pay or something. Dungy isn't making big bucks in Indy, and he's accomplished a hell of a lot more than Lovie, and he's been successful at his current job for much longer.

I think Jerry and Ted are making it quite clear that they'll be paying Lovie a lot soon.

Wait, he just quit the Dallas job to take the Arkansas job

Not that it matters to Saban, but that job isn't open.
