I figured one thread to discuss the coaching rumors, hires, and such would be a good idea.

Lets start with this gem:

http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9916444

Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli rejected the chance to interview for the Giants' general manager job Monday, but his father-in-law, Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells, is a contender for it, according to a high-ranking NFL source.

It is, according to the source, a longshot. But there is a shot that Parcells could wind up leaving Dallas to finish up his NFL career as the general manager of the Giants, shopping for all of New York's groceries and teaming up with the Mara family once again.

I really hope Pete Carroll doesn't go to Miami.

The funny thing is that Miami just got burned by a "college coach"...why would they go after another one? After a couple of losing season some college school would come after Carroll and he'd probably go right back to it...not sure why you'd want to travel that road again if you're Miami.

The difference being that Carroll is a former NFL coach and assistant while Saban wasn't (to my knowledge)

Nick Saban used to be an assistant coach with the Browns and Oilers.

And it's not like Pete Carroll was some really successful NFL coach. Every year he coached the team's record was worse than the previous year.

Saban and Trussel were also one time Syracuse University assistants!

Some very good choices out there on the list for NFL head coaching jobs.

Very intrigued to see what Petrino can do in the NFL.

Whisenhunt is the best coaching prospect to me. I think Atlanta should have thrown everything they have to offer at Coach Wiz (GT and Falcons former player) and used Petrino as a fallback option. Russ Grimm in Pitt is also a nice prospect. I think he can be a good one.

Norm Chow is an interesting name, and could get big interest from Arizona. Rivera is interesting, but don't see him having a ton of success. Former IU coach, Cam Cameron, has been mentioned and I think he is horrible. Granted he didn't have the talent in Bloomington, but he can't coach. Mike Tomlin seems like a longshot to get a job this year, because he doesn't have much of a resume at this point, other than this season as the Vikes DC. Singletary has been mentioned. Colts, Jim Caldwell, who I don't know much about.

At this point, I think Singletary, Tomlin, Cameron and Rivera are best suited as coordinators. But I'd rather see any of these guys get a shot to coach over guys like Pete Carroll, who have already tried and failed.

Very nice assessment, raw. I personally hope the Steelers will go with Wiz. It appears it will definitely be him or Grimm. The vets and the management both wanted to stay in house. However, they're both white and the Rooney Rule being, well, the Rooney Rule, they brought in Ron Rivera and Mike Tomlin for interviews. I think it'll be Wiz by next week.

He's their assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach. Prior to that, he was head coach in college at Wake Forest for several years, leading them to a rare winning record and bowl game in his next-to-last season there..

I think Ron Riveria is a lock to Arizona, IMO.

I certainly hope you're right. Arizona is the only team that has shown interest in Norm Chow so far (to my knowledge) and I really don't want him leaving Tennessee. I realize that hope is likely fleeting, though, as he's too good not to become a head coach somewhere, sometime.

Yeah I think Chow ends up in AZ.

Mike Zimmer has left the Cowboys to be the defensive coordinator of the Falcons.

What's the word on Coach P out there now Vance?

Depends on who you ask. Some say he's going to be back. Some say he wants to be the Giants GM. Others say, he's quitting.

I've also heard that Jones wants him back. (He's said this publicly.) But I've also heard, Jones secretly wants Parcells to quit.

I can't imagine him getting out of football. GM? Wow, that I would have never guessed because he is so hands on.

Thanks.

I'm hearing Mike Sherman to the Cardinals:

Yeah, I think it's all but official.

He's an ok coach, but if Arizona lets him anywhere near becoming a GM or having control on draft day, they are going to be screwed.

Does he know who the Raiders are?

Over the course of history there are not many times where you could get fired by the Arizona Cardinals and then take a worse head coaching job. This could be quite historic.
