I was waiting for someone to post about this.

Does anyone else think we should go get Peavy on the cheap right now?

Izturis and Rusch for Peavy?

Why would they publish his stats at the end of that article?

I, for one, am glad to see that cops are a-holes to everyone..jerks like me and jerks like him..regardless of his W-L or ERA.

There's nothing wrong with what Peavy did. Obviously him not wasting his time to move his car would have been worth more than the ticket. He has the money.

please elaborate....

I don't see what was wrong with what he said either... the way I understood it was that Peavy simply told the cop to just go ahead and issue him a ticket for the way he was parked and he'd (Peavy) gladly pay the fine. What's the harm in that?

EDIT: I failed to see this part of the story....

Katie Peavy detailed what happened next, according to her husband:

Peavy was unloading the truck and pushing his bags through the gate when he was approached by a female security guard who told him to move the truck.

“Jake told me he said he'd move it as soon as he got his last bag into the terminal,” Katie Peavy said. “But the guard said a truck couldn't be left at the curb without a driver.”

The security guard said she would have to write him a ticket. Katie said Jake responded, “Write me a ticket” before saying “Call a real cop.”

I just think flagrantly breaking the law, especially at an airport in these days is ignorant.

Was Peavy acting like a self-important jerk? Was the cop overreacting? Probably a little from column A, a little from column B. Sounds like a breakdown of common sense on all fronts.

It's very unwise to mess with airport security in any fashion nowadays. They're forced to be on their highest alert at all times, even when very little ever happens (especially in Mobile). So when there actually is some kind of incident, albiet as minor as this, they will respond as if it were a grave threat.

Don't people unload at the curb anymore? I know they stopped it for awhile after 9/11, but I don't remember the last time I didn't unload at the curb

That's what he was doing.. security raised a stink because there was nobody in the drivers seat while he was unloading... essentially leaving the vehicle 'unattended'.

It's been the rule since 9/11. Some airports let you do it and they shouldn't.

It's one of the few security measures that has a snowball's chance in hell of preventing a terrorist attack. Just about everything else is window dressing to make people feel more comfortable flying.

He did something against the law. He was given a warning and an opportunity to move his car without as much as a ticket. He was arrested.

He is an idiot.

If you're willing to do the time (ticket), you can do the crime. He committed a ticketable offense, not worthy of an arrest.

eh...I'm not sure that we have the whole story. His words evidently weren't..."I'm willing to pay the ticket. I need to get my bags inside, so please write the citation."

Yeah, I think the tone in which he said it and the exact words he used are the key here.

Oh, surely. I am sure we don't have the full altercation represented here.

You shouldn't get arrested for hurting a security guards feelings. Just write him a ticket.

I agree.

We heard part of the story from Towers and more from Peavy's wife. I guess I'm not absolutely sold that the handcuffs were placed on Jake after he said "call a real cop."...although that is certainly where the conversation went south for him.

seriously...and the whole "its at an airport" thing...airport security is a joke. Useless waste of money.
