Government investigators are entitled to the names and urine samples of about 100 Major League Baseball players who tested positive for illegal drug use in 2003, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.

The court's ruling could bolster the government's perjury case against Barry Bonds if his name is among those who tested positive. The slugger has been the target of a perjury investigation since he testified before a grand jury that he didn't knowingly ingest illegal drugs.

Yowza!! That'll be like Wrestlemania, the Super Bowl, and the World Series all rolled into one!!

Hmmmm.

Depends on who is on the list, I suppose. If it's Bonds, then yeah that could be a blockbuster.

It might be Sosa too. I wouldn't be happy about it, but I think it very likely Sammy juiced and the truth should come out even if it hurts.

is there a statute of limitations? nothing can be done within the MLB for these positive tests, right, as steroids were not against league rules at the time? this list would simply be used on legal grounds...

Rest assured that if the list becomes public, anyone with a Hall of Fame vote will use this when deciding who to vote into the HoF.

You'll probably see more pitchers than hitters on that list.

Interesting ... my own initial reaction was: "I'm more worried about seeing Prior on the list than Sosa."

Why?

It's not like he just inexplicably caught the injury bug and therefore steroids must be the reason.

I don't care who took steroids three years ago.

I don't really either, except for the handful of guys I like to think of as "clean".

Finding out John Smoltz, DLee, and Griffey were juicing would be a heartbreaker.

So that would have been after the 2003 season? I would venture a guess that it would include names like Clemens, Pudge Rodriguez, Giambi, Bonds, Mike Lowell, Sosa, Prior, Gagne...

I really hope no current Cubs are named, though. I'd feel very conflicted.

I think we're all pretty sure Sammy juiced...

Yeah not really...

I can acknowlege he very likely juiced while still holding on to the admittedly irrational hope that he didn't.

Lowell would be a shocker to me considering his cancer issues of the past, unless steroids were used to help him rehab.

The one guy that I think of first when I think of who might be guilty of taking steroids would be Gabe Kapler. Not a big name or anything, but for some reason, he's the first one I think of.

i dont like this at all... it just makes me mad for being a baseball fan!.. plus the fact that it could be guys we are big fans of, and if they are part of it..... im not gonna be in a good mood, and neither are a ton of other baseball fans.

Who said anything about an injury bug?

I'm more worried about seeing Prior (or any other present Cub) than Sosa because it would be devastating to this team. I already have a pretty good idea that Sosa was juiced - Prior would be terrible news.

Plus I'd hate to hear I told you so's from Jack McDowell.

The more I think about it the more I agree with RynoRules ... this list could be really bad news for baseball in general.

Unfortunately, in this age of steroids, people jump to this conclusion when a player becomes injury-prone.

I'm not saying the above poster jumped to that conclusion, however.
