So what else is new:

CINCINNATI -- Ken Griffey Jr. broke his left hand in an accident at home, the latest in a series of injuries that have derailed the career of the All-Star outfielder.

Griffey's throwing hand will be in a hard cast for three weeks, then will be re-examined, Reds spokesman Rob Butcher said Friday.

There must be a little demon who sits on his shoulder or something.

He's fragile as the finest crystal. I've never seen anything like it. Well, OK, outside of Prior & Wood I've never seen anything like it.

And from a true CFer, no less.

I can recall many instances where I suggested trading for Griffey Jr. while he was with the Reds. Luckily, that never happened.

What's new is that, for once, he was injured during the off-season rather than during the season.
And this is a transaction how exactly?
It isn't, so off to Baseball Discussions. Maybe it would have been if it were during the season, since placing a player on the DL is considered a transaction.

Good news for us. Suddenly, the Reds could REALLY use Jacque Jones. The signing of Jeff Conine is not going to fill Jr.s shoes....

It's currently December. With two months to go until spring training, I really don't see how the Reds could really use any additional outfielder right now. In all likelihood, Junior will be fine come Opening Day.

In the wake of Bagwell's retirement/HOF chances, and Roger Clemens yearly "will he or won't he" game, the question has to be asked:

If Junior Griffey, retired today (hyperthetically speaking, of course) would Junior be a Hall of Famer?

I really don't think so.

Definitely. He compares favorably to many HOF players, and his few comparables that aren't yet HOF are current players that will be.

6 times in the top 10 for MVP (with 1 actual win)

A bunch of gold gloves, a bunch of silver sluggers, 4 HR titles.

He's going to have more hits than Mantle, and already has more HR and RBI. He's lower on the OPS+ category, but writers aren't going to take that into account. He compares very favorably to Reggie Jackson, and played a position that requires less offense.

prettiest swing in baseball.

Slow pitch Softball swing. Not a real good baseball swing. Too many players have emulated this swing with not much effectiveness. Corey Patterson comes to mind.

Griffey is without a doubt a HOFer. Considered the best player in baseball for about 10 years. Noone except for maybe Dale Murphy with that kind of stature has ever been left out of HOF.

It may not be the best, but I definitely agree with it being the "prettiest" I've ever seen. When he knocks one out, it just looks so perfect. I'm not saying it is...it just looks that way.

He definitely is without question. Over 560 career home runs, seven years of 40 or more (including two years with 56), and a career batting average just over .290. He's a first ballot lock.
