What the heck is that, and what does it have to do with Pie?

It's Wolverine from an arcade game, and it's my reaction to this announcement.

Dude's not ready.

I think it's a smart move to say that so maybe they won't look desparate looking for a CF.

Maybe they are trying to convince people he is major leauge ready so they can trade him?

It seems as though the Cubs believe that their offense will be so productive that Pie could simply play defense and any offense he provides would be a bonus.

I'm not sure that he's ready, but if he wasn't expected to do anything offensively and he could play everyday, I don't think I'd mind.

Cubs would have to upgrade a position in order to do that, though.

Yeah...like for that Miggy guy that plays for Florida!

It's possible that Hendry wants to move him. I'm curious on who he'd want to get.

Just wondering. Everyone that wants to trade for Cabrera, where would he play? CF?

Wherever he wants.

True. We could trade or platoon Murton or Jones. That guy is the next Pujols.

The Cubs have a vacancy in center field following the departure of Juan Pierre, and Pie could fill that job with a good spring.

why spring?

Because he had a bad winter?

I don't see how spring training will tell us much about Pie.

Spring Training stats rarely mean anything. If they did Sing would be our 1st baseman.

I just think this is a bad idea. We need someone else.

But he had a great fall. Of course, so did Humpty Dumpty.

Are you kidding me?

Without giving unproven guys jobs solely because of strong spring training performances, we wouldn't have difference makers like ANGEL PAGAN!

He does strike out a lot, and Joshua is trying to get Pie to go deeper in counts. Look at Detroit center fielder Curtis Granderson -- he struck out 174 times and batted .260, and got to the World Series.

This is, quite possibly, the most useless and insignificant information I've ever seen in professional journalism.

I don't see anything wrong with playing Pie up like he's got a chance. Everyone always complains that the Cubs hurt the value of guys. This does nothing but give us bargaining power and potentially increase Pie's trade value. I see nothing wrong with it.

Agree with you 100%. I was reading the article when I got to that line and I'm thinking, "%@%##$$ does that have to do with anything?". But then I realized it was a Muskat article and everything became clear :)
