I don't know about the rest of you, but to me the most exciting ongoing drama about these winter meetings has been the saga of Barry Bonds.

7:02 a.m., from Steve Phillips

• Barry Bonds has just arrived at the meetings, and his agent, Jeff Borris, will be talking with teams besides the Giants.

4:34 p.m., from Jayson Stark

• Barry Bonds, the mystery guest of the winter meetings, headed off to meet his mystery suitor today. But even though Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris, told ESPN's Steve Phillips that Barry had stopped by not-so-conveniently located Disney World to meet with at least two "other teams," there was widespread skepticism among baseball people we surveyed that he was bound anywhere other than San Francisco.

5:04 p.m., from Jayson Stark

• According to some folks who work here at the hotel, Barry Bonds has left the premises and is headed home.

7:12 p.m., from Steve Phillips

• Elvis is back in the building! An earlier rumor making the rounds had Barry Bonds on his way back to the Bay Area, but that proved untrue. Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris, plans to meet with the Giants tonight, and Barry's still here at the Swan and Dolphin.

Absolutely riveting stuff, although no word on where he ate for lunch.

By the way, has anyone checked to see if Jim Hendry has been seen wearing one of these.

Mets after Rich Harden?

Rich Harden-S-Athletics Dec. 6 - 7:09 pm et

John Delcos of The Journal News says Rich Harden's name is coming up more in talks between the A's and Mets than Joe Blanton's and that a package of Lastings Milledge, Aaron Heilman and Philip Humber could get a deal done.

We still find it hard to believe that Harden might be moved, but that's the kind of package that could tempt the A's. The Mets now view Heilman as more expendable after acquiring Ambiorix Burgos from the Royals. For what it's worth, ESPN's Steve Phillips believes it's another A's starter, presumably Joe Blanton or Dan Haren, that's the subject of the trade talks.

Giants sign Molina (3/16).

Rotoworld:

Giants signed catcher Bengie Molina, who had been with the Blue Jays, to a three-year, $16 million contract.

Well, Molina did out-OPS Eliezer Alfonso 785 to 767 last season. Surely that's worth $16 million. No, Alfonzo probably isn't that good, but neither is Molina, a career .275/.310/.407 hitter. At age 32, he entering the territory at which catchers tend to collapse offensively, and his decline on defense has been rapid and could continue. Throw in that there was no indication that Molina had even a substantial one-year offer from any other team and this is another one of the worst signings of the offseason.

Terrible, terrible signing. Just horrible.

How does Pie deserve a shot? He really has to work on his OBP before we give him a shot

Why should Pie be treated differently?

Huh, I haven't seen this guys name (Hendrickson) mentioned until now... a snippet from a new article from NY Newsday...

With excess starting pitching, the Dodgers will shop some arms. On the high end, Brad Penny could be available. On the low end, there's lefthander Mark Hendrickson, who could wind up with the Cubs.

The Brewers are shopping outfielders Brady Clark, Geoff Jenkins and Kevin Mench and could be open to trading two of them.

The Cardinals asked the Rockies about former rookie star Clint Barmes, with the idea that Barmes would be a utility infielder.

Three lefties in the rotation? I don't think so. Hendrickson is very mediocre, and with the signing of Lilly, we need a #2-3 starter, not another #5 guy.

Maybe Spring Training decides his first major league game ?

Great move, if you're looking to improve the Cubs' basketball team.

What about Bernie Williams for one year or have his skills completely deteriorated?

He's not even an adequate defensive CF anymore.

Kap on WGN Sports Central just said Lofton is looking for $6 million a year.

Well, he probably isn't going to get it. $5 mil is pushing it. I wouldn't mind a base of 4 and incentives that would total 5 or 6, as long as his hammys can make it through the season.

I love Lofton, and wish they never got rid of him after 2003. Even when we didn't know Patterson was going to bust.
