CBS Report from the Winter Meetings...

The Chicago Cubs are deep into discussions with several free agent pitchers, including Ted Lilly and Jason Schmidt, and are waiting for them to make some decisions. The Cubs already have spent more than $230 million this winter for Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano, Mark DeRosa, Kerry Wood, Henry Blanco and new manager Lou Piniella, and they're still expected to be major players this week. The Cubs still plan to sign two starting pitchers and an outfielder. They are in heavy on Julio Lugo, and a source within the Cubs' organization said the club hopes to leave town later this week with its holes filled.

I wont mind signing Lily as long as we get Schmibt to be our number two...Just sign Schimbt and trade for Jennings..that would solve it all..Solid top 3 pitchers...

I, for one, don't mind this method too much. If you miss something in a 40-page thread it's hard to get caught up.

I would think Hendry is going to make some kind of deal. He has all of those young pitchers listening to the rumors of signing a few starters to 4-year contracts. Something has to give. Also, with the ridiculous numbers the free agents are getting, I would rather go the trade route.
