2:1 odds he has a career year.

I'm going to go with him sucking, just like the last 3 years.

I'm thinking Jeff Suppan part deux, maybe on a lesser scale.

I'm think Kent Bottenfield/Jeff Weaver esque turnaroud. Which is fair, because then the Cards can take K. Wells---after his career yr---and trade him Tampa Bay for Carl Crawford after then 2007 season. That seems fair.

it's a one year contract.

I'm implying they'd resign him after 2007, and trade him to TB for Crawford during the 2008 season.

I like this deal a lot. If he has his arterial issues behind him and can get back to near the pitcher he was from 2002-2003, 4 mil will be a bargain. Hopefully they don't make it obvious that the #5 slot is his to lose, and hopefully he comes to spring in great shape. Duncan loves to resurrect these ground ball pitchers.

He'll definitely get more run support.

It's the Cards. They'll manage to get solid performances out of him. Only Ankiel can claim to be immune from that magic St. Louis pixie dust.

That's great news. I cant wait to see DLee blast numerous 500 foot bombs to center off Kip.

I'd like to believe that's a possibility but, everything or one the Cardinals touch turns to gold. No doubt, under the tutelage of the great Dave Duncan and in Cardinal Red, Wells will go on to have the season of his life. Including going 4-0, with an ERA and WHIP both under 1, against the Cubs.

Duncan's tuteledge didn't do much for Ponson, did it?

The rare exception perhaps, I should have written almost everything or one the Cardinals touch turns to gold...

We gave up waiting.

Part of the reason was that he seemed to have given up. The papers in PGH sometimes reported that his teammates felt he was soft.

Maybe he needs a winning environment

Actually, there's probably some truth to that. But, part of the problem of the losing environment was Wells. He had a great year in '03, after growing from year to year. Then, in '04 he crashed.

I didn't think we should have traded him last year. The guy we got (I can't even remember his name) did well in winter leagues, IIR. Still, I wonder if we would have done better with a pick?

Also, look what happened to Schmidt after we traded him.

You may joke, but there's something to what you say.
