Say wha? Insane deal just looking at it. Aardsma hadn't done too much yet, but Cotts had an incredible 2005. 2006 sucked. Hmm, anyone follow the Sox better and can give us the dibs on this guy?

2005 Cotts: 60.1 IP, 1.94 ERA, 1 HR allowed, 58K, 29 BB

2006 Cotts: 54 IP, 5.17 ERA, 12 HR allowed, 43K, 24 BB

Give me 2005 Cotts please.

Maybe he's a left handed version of Farnsworth...

Drafted - Selected by Oakland Athletics in 2nd Round (69th overall) of 2001 amateur entry draft (June-Reg) Jun 13,2001 - signed Dec 16,2002 - Traded by Athletics with Daylon Holt and Billy Koch to White Sox for Joe Valentine, Mark Johnson, Keith Foulke and Cash.

over the last three years went 65.1, 60.1, 54 innings pitched.

bad trade for the cubs. no idea why they would do this even if they are going to trade eyre. they still have ohman & rapada from the left side. if anything, it should have been novoa for cotts. aardsma has the potential to be a great pitcher out of the pen. whats next, hill for garcia?

Cotts was great in 2005, but Aardsma never was. It's a interesting trade to say the least. I think something else is brewing here...

Aardvark was good last year, but i'm not sure he had much trade value. Cotts 2005 would make anyones eyes pop out. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have more trade value. Especially to a team that wanted a left handed pitcher.

Perhaps he's going to take Eyre or Ohmans place in another deal.

I can understand trading Aardsma in that we're overloaded with bullpen guys. We still have Dempster, Wood, Howry, Wuertz, and Novoa from the right side. That's almost a complete bullpen right there...but to get another bullpen arm back is puzzling.

I'd have to think another trade is in the works, likely for Eyre. I liked Eyre from a personality stand-point. He was a nice guy. But, his comments after Dusty was not retained may have punched his ticket out of town.

Yep. Eyre is gone. Or else this doesn't make any sense.

This is almost certainly a precursor to a deal. 3 LHP in a pen is a bit much.

There'd better be a follow-on trade involving either Eyre or Ohman, otherwise I agree, this move is non-sensical. Aardsma has loads of potential, and with our bullpen depth, we could afford to wait on him. Cotts is nothing special, so in the absence of a coming trade, I'd be plenty annoyed and confused.

What's the skinny on Carlos Vazquez?
