Does this mean they bring Walker or Bellhorn back? Strange move.

Well, there have already been rumors of their interest in Marcus Giles, but all that talk has been about acquiring him as a third baseman. Now, they could look to bring him in without switching him to a different position.

I don't see this as a strange move. The Padres have made it a priority to get power, they don't have too many positions to do it. Getting Kouzmanoff at third base will help fill some power and now they have to fill a vacant second base position where less power would have been available. They still have one OF position where they can try to get a power hitter.

it's kinda weird to see young guys/prospects traded for each other like that.

Makes sense for Cleveland. Marte is ahead of Kouzmanoff at 3b. They were also discussing the possibility of bringing Belliard back to play 2b. Now they don't have to.

I just read the article and noticed the comments about Giles. My guess is San Diego probably already has something in the works to bring in Giles.

If they get Giles, it would be a good move for both teams.

I like the move for Cleveland. I was really hoping they put in a better show last year. They have so much young talent, I can't help but root for a team that put it all together the right way.

I really like the trade for Cleveland. They already have Marte at 3B and needed the help at 2B. Potentially, a pretty even trade if both players hit their ceilings. Barfield is gonna be ready to break out next year, especially if he hits between Sizemore and Hafner in the 2-hole.

but Kouzmanoff looks like a good player too.. though he may be a little older but i think he can also do good, i just think this is a good trade for both teams but again favoring the Indians. but i also noticed the Padres are in need of a third baseman.. hmmm...

Definitely old for never being above AA ball except for his late season call up last year.

But, it does appear as though he has some tremendous pop in his bat. Very good patience as well. I like Barfield a lot more, though.

Is Aybar making Marcus Giles expendable at 2b in Atlanta?

Yeah, I believe so. Aybar is 23, hit .313 with the Braves, had a .121 BB/PA with the Dodgers. OPS was .767 for the year, but he has .850 potential. Giles had a .728 OPS, could make over $5M in arbitration this year, before becoming a FA next year.

Sure seems like Brian wants to play with his brother pretty bad. There was discussion last year that Brian would be willing to play wherever his brother was. Now, the discussion is Marcus could end up where Brian's at.
