Bears are now a lock. The Giants are getting absolutely ravished with injuries, like I have never seen before.

Ravaged, you mean? Ravished by injuries, I dont know what to make of that

I've seen a lot worse than this. Plax may well play, so they may have their starting QB, RB and top WR. Toomer really isn't much better than Tim Carter or David Tyree at this point in his career. The offensive line is healthy, and Shockey will play. Defense they're in worse shape, especially on the line, but it's not the end of the world there either.

Not to whine about last year, but the Eagles lost their starting QB, top 2 RB, top 2 receivers, 3 starting offensive linemen. On defense they lost 2 DT (1 starting), a starting DE, 1 starting linebacker LB and top CB. Even the punter got put on IR and the kicker missed significant time. That is a bad injury situation. The Giants are really nowhere close to that.

I'll ravish your sig ;)

To be honest, it being a road game and all, I think the Bears need some help to win this one. I'd rather it not come in the form of injuries. I agree with you, the Giants still have enough of their players to win this game @ home against what I believe will be a Bears team suffering from a slight loss of confidence after last week.

We'll see how it plays out. I'd be perfectly OK losing this game if we came back and beat the Jets & Pats. But I fear if we lose this one, it might snowball into a 4-game bender, and that's the nightmare which is in the back of every Bear fan's mind right now.

Nothing is a lock in the NFL. If they are successful at pressuring Grossman and can move the ball with short passes, the Bears can lose.

Arrington, Toomer out for year (they do have depth at both positions though).

Osi, Madison, Short, Strahan, Tuck probably out for Sunday (AKA the entire defense).

Yeah, Bears should win by 20+.

He leads the team in catches ... :?: Carter sucks pretty hard. I'm hoping between Tyree, Jennings, and Moss, a #2 emerges.

#1 and 2 wideouts out, 1 offensive linemen, both starting defensive ends, backup defensive end(tuck), starting corner, two of three starting linebackers (the real strength of the team), and Wilson (starting safety) and Shockey have missed time.

Pretty bad.

not to mention it's a road game in a tough environment against a good team. I don't care if you're the Colts or whoever, that's never a lock.

I think a little of this is in order:

Bill Swerski: Good afternoon, my friends, and welcome to "Bill Swerski's Super Fans"! I'm Bill Swerski, and with me, as always, are the Super Fans: Pat Arnold..

Pat Arnold: Hey, Bill.

Bill Swerski: ..Todd O'Conner..

Todd O'Conner: [ while chewing his food ] Bill.

Bill Swerski: ..and Carl Wollarski.

Carl Wollarski: How ya' doing, Bill?

Bill Swerski: Alright, we're talking here, live from Ditka's, in the heart of Chicago, Illinois. The city of big shoulders, and home, of course, to a certain football team, which has carved out a special place in the pantheon of professional football greats. That team, which is known the world over, as.. Da Bears!

Superfans: Da Bears!!

Bill Swerski: Okay. Okay, by my watch, we're about thirteen minutes from game time. As you are sure aware, Da Bears are getting ready for the big play-off against Da New York Giants. Now, let go around the room for some predictions. Pat?

Pat Arnold: Da Bears, 62 to 3.

Bill Swerski: Okay. Todd.

Todd O'Conner: Bears. 79-zip.

Bill Swerski: Oh, really? You don't think that Da Giants will score?

Todd O'Conner: No, I do not! Da Bears defense is like a wall. You can't go through it!

Bill Swerski: Alright. How about you, Carl?

Carl Wollarski: I say Bears, 52 to 14.

Pat Arnold: Oh, what? Come on!

Carl Wollarski: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I gotta give Da Giants credit - I think they'll give Da Bears a game!

Bill Swerski: Alright, leave him alone, that's his prerogative! As for my prediction.. at game's end, uh.. there won't be two teams of contrasting moods heading off da field, my friends. One gloom, one gleeful. The gleeful, of which be.. Da Bears!

Superfans: Da Bears!!

Bill Swerski: 74 to 2! I mean, after all, our civic pride is on the line. Because, let's face it, if New York were to somehow beat Chicago, we'd never hear the end of it.

Todd O'Conner: Aw, they would love it over there!

Bill Swerski: You know, it's absurd, really, that we would even have to waste our time comparing ourselves to that crime-ridden rathole!

Carl Wollarski: Absolutely!

Bill Swerski: I mean, for example, which building would you rather have - the Empire State Building, or Da Sears Tower? Pat?

Pat Arnold: Sears.

Bill Swerski: Carl?

Carl Wollarski: Sears is taller.

Bill Swerski: Todd?

Todd O'Conner: Sears.

Carl Wollarski: Sears!

Superfans: Da Sears!!

When you have probably the most complete team in the NFC, and then suddenly the team gets destroyed with random injuries, it tends to get annoying.

every team suffers injuries. Some years you're just completely snake bit, but the Giants still have the most important pieces to their offense (Manning and Barber) and Burress' injury is nothing major. They're 6-2 and play in a bad division, so even with the injuries they've suffered, they can still get pretty healthy for the playoffs. When you lose your 4 best offensive players, 3-4 defensive starters and your kicker and punter, that's destroyed by injuries. What the Giants are going through is just a little bit worse luck than the average NFL team.

The Bears were also much more of a lock to go 8-0 than they could ever be for the Giants game.

I agree, I'm probably being dramatic. It's just a pain when your having a good season, and then some key players go down.

Pass rush both ways will be the key. Both teams have QBs that don't perform well with a rush in his face. Both teams have their #2-3 WRs with very little experience, which could lead to route running mistakes in blitz situations.

The Giants haven't brought much blitz wise, relying on their D-line to provide much of the pass rush. They have 5 sacks from outside their D-line, and 3 of those are from Short and Arrington who could both be out. So, one would guess in order to provide pressure against the Bears, the Giants would have to bring some help. The Giants are already reluctant with a weak defensive backfield. Take Sam Madison out and that's a lot of RW McQuarters 1-on-1, which is a win for the Bears.

The Bears on the other hand have solid matchups across the board. The Bears D-line is better than the NY O-line. I like Urlacher or Briggs vs. Shockey. I like Vasher against whoever the Giants start at WR. I don't think Tillman vs. Plax is that bad either, considering Peanut plays bigger WRs better.

Greetings from Checotah, OK

My feerless prediction............

BEARS 17
NY Giants 19

.... good for a 2 in your confidence pool.

:(

Just change the 9 to a 4 and you can boost the confidence level to a 6

NY media in general is very dismissive of the Bears, especially their offense. They don't seem to think the Bears have a chance of scoring unless the defense does the work. I heard one guy on the radio pick the Bears, and he was raked (with tongue in cheek) by Michael Kay for picking against his favorite team.

Giants fans seem to be split between those who are deathly afraid of an angry Bears team going insane on the wounded Giants, and those who think the Bears aren't good and will get hammered.

Listened a little to the Bears Report with Hub Arkush last night on B&B, trying to pick up on whether or not Gage is going to play. There was an interview snippet with Mark Bradley, said his role was going to be somewhat limited. Hub also mentioned Rasheid (or Rasheed?) Davis' role wasn't going to change significantly either, leaving me to deduce that, very unfortunately, Gage is going to start at WR Sunday night. Did anyone else catch the remainder of the show? Hope I'm wrong about Gage...

Depends on how they'd use Gage. It's a mistake to try and get him to do the same stuff Berrian does, as Gage is not a burner. He's more of a leaper, who should be able to go up and get some balls over top of CB's.

Worked for the Dolphins and the "angry" Jason Taylor...

Doesn't Gage have trouble catching balls? If I recall correctly he dropped a lot a passes last season.

This is the fear of both of my brothers (Giants season ticket holders). Before the Dolphins game, I was talking to my brother and he said that the worst case senario for the Giants was the Bears losing to the Dolphins.

I'm still personally split on this as well. I still think the real Bears are the team we've seen 6 of the 8 games, but being that the two worst games have come in the last three weeks, I'm a little concerned.

There really is no "overlooking" a game like this and I'm sure the Bears will be focused. I'm optimistic that they've had their "wake up call" at this point and Lovie will have them well prepared. I'd still like to see them focus more on running the ball and see better adjustments to the blitz.

''I worry about [Grossman] a lot more after wins than I do losses,'' quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said. ''Usually when things are not going well, the next week comes and he is so focused and he is into the system and not trying to do too much. If things go well, he kind of wants to expand and freelance a little bit more. When things are not going well, he's strictly by the book.''

Hrm, not sure what to make of this. I suppose it's both good and bad.
