For the record I think Michigan is going to beat Ohio State. Troy Smith hasn't impressed me that much and I think UM's defense will eat him up just like they did Quinn.

I think Ohio State will win only because I have a hard time seeing Michigan scoring a decent amount of points. It will be very much a defensive game though it looks like, and when it becomes that type of game where 1 play could change the game anybody could win.

Ohio State will win because its in Columbus

...but I hope not

I agree on Ohio State winning because they're at home. I think OSU has a better team though and might pick them to win in Ann Arbor. Should be an entertaining game though.

Alright, time for me to be selfish and think about Cal's chances at the National Championship game.

So basically what has to happen

-They have to win out (End Season 11-1)

-Texas must either TAMU or the Big XII game vs. Nebraska (most likely opponent)

-Arkansas must lose one of their last 3 games

-USC must beat Notre Dame

-WVU must beat Rutgers

-Either the voters decide that out of these 3 1 loss teams (Florida, Cal, Auburn), that Cal is the strongest team, or Florida and Auburn lose a game.

chances of all that happening...meh i can dream

LOL-I was just thinking the same thing about Notre Dame, and it's the same list except of course that USC beats Cal, and Arkansas comes back from losing one of their last 3 games to beat Florida in the SEC title game, and either ND sneaks in front of Auburn or maybe Auburn would lose.

Thinking the same thing, in Arkansas's case. I finally feel like Arkansas is high enough that winning out would finally get them ahead of Auburn--if they go in ranked 7 or so (likely since the current 7-9 fight amongst themselves the next two weeks, WVU plays Rutgers and has an inferior schedule), there's no way they end up behind the Auburn team the whooped in their own yard if they're that close. That would likely bring them up to around 5. Texas would have to lose vs. TA&M or Nebraska, which is quite possible, and Michigan or OSU would have to lose enough rep to fall more than one or two spots after their clash--a few unimpressive performances after the fact would help that cause.

I'm weirded out at how non-impossible it is. Still extremely unlikely, but it sure is fun to be this close.

Note also that I expect Louisville to fall to about 8-10 after the loss tonight, and Arkansas would pass them, like WVU, on the basis of equal losses and superior schedule.

Note also also that it's really nice to have people considering what Arkansas does in their championship hopes. :D

it's pretty obvious the 2 best teams in the country are osu and michigan, so the national title game should essentially just be a rematch of next week's game.

I have a hard time buying Michigan as the consensus #2, especially if OSU handles them.

eh, their only loss would be to the #1 team in the country.

Same with Texas. If USC beats Notre Dame, then the two teams have similar best wins(Notre Dame v. Oklahoma) too.

What makes the OSU/Michigan loser any better than Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, USC, Louisville, West Virginia, ND/Texas, or Cal? You could make an argument for OSU/Michigan loser as the second best team in the country but I have a hard time believing the choice as obvious.

Most certainly isn't obvious. I would put Florida, at the least, in front of the OSU/Michigan loser, although putting any more in front of them may depend on what the margin of victory is.

It's the toughest conference in college football!

The Big East is the only major coference that has each team play each other. Auburn doesn't play Tennessee and Ohio State didn't play Wisconsin. That's very frustrating for me.

If Rutgers beats WV, that means they and Ohio State (if they win) will be the only teams that beat 1 loss teams. Yeah, I see Rutgers moving all the way up to #8 thanks to the gurus and their preseason/old boys polls.

The Pac 10 also now has every team playing each other.

Okay, here is my mostly improbable scenario by which the BCS can in no way argue against a playoff anymore:

Rutgers loses to WVU

Florida loses to SC

Arkansas loses to Tennessee

Auburn loses to Florida (SEC title game)

Wake Forest loses to Maryland

Texas loses to Nebraska (Big 12 title game)

Notre Dame loses to USC

USC loses to Oregon

Cal loses to USC

Couple of things-Arkansas has to lose twice to get Auburn into the SEC title game. Also, again that wouldn't get much controversy-people would just give Ohio State-Michigan their rematch and claim they were the best 2 teams all along, and everyone else just proved it by losing. I think it would be better for BCS chaos if as many 1 loss teams stayed as possible.

I thought it was down to ND or Florida State for Arrelious Benn, but apparently he committed to Illinois yesterday. Juice-to-Benn ought to be a fun one to watch.

The conference champhionship game takes care of not playing every team in a conference.

So what if Tennessee doesn't play Auburn. If either were the best in their division, they'd play in the conference title game.

As it is, Arkansas and Florida have the inside track to that game.

If an SEC team gets through with only one loss, they could very well be in the National Title Game. If Arkansas were to win out, they'd have wins against Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Florida ---- quite a resume. . . oh, and 12 straight wins.

Texas is another team that could easily have but 1 loss.

I have season tickets, and I'll be in the student section all game getting rained on.

Funny how Illinois fans I work with have been crying about Gordon and Rose for awhile now hadnt even heard of this kid until today. WR has been the biggest offensive problem for Illinois since LLoyd and that crew were there. If Illinois can improve their receiver corps they can be really good in the next couple of years.
