I think ARam stays with the Cubs. I really do. I've thought about it a little more.

It's got to be that Hendry/Kinzer couldn't come to an agreement on what market value for Ramirez is. Now Kinzer goes out and talks to teams and comes back to Hendry with their offers, which will be big.

We're going to pay out the backside now. I don't think Hendry will let ARam get away, but we're going to pay a lot more now that Hendry couldn't close the gap today.

How often does a team that loose exclusive rights end up resigning the player.

I can't think of one time with a big name player.

I still hope Hendry gets this done and it get announced tomorrow.

Paul Konerko. That said, I still doubt this'll happen with ARam.

Yup, the Angels helped to increase the price the Sox had to pay to keep him. Strangely, he ended up giving the White Sox a discount instead of bolting to the West Coast. Hopefully, Aramis follows this model..;

All in favor of David Bell at 3rd and ARod at SS?

That would settle nice after this kick to the crotch.

Iwamura for 3b.

Too late, bidding ended already

I thought it was going to end on Wednesday?

It ended yesterday, they have until Thursday to accept/reject, the Padres submitted a bid, I haven't heard who else was a confirmed bidder.

Wheres my bottle of Jack?

This is gonna be a long offseason

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez will test free agency, FOXSports.com has learned, creating yet another hole for a team that already had planned to pursue two starting pitchers, an outfield slugger, a center fielder and maybe a second baseman.

bump for those of us who had to search for it to find out why everyone is so fired up.

good news everyone, i drank a bunch of cheap whiskey (who can afford jim beam?) and now i don't care anymore.

I think we should have known that Ramirez would not be signed when he started showing up on lists as the #1 free agent on the market. Signing the best players has rarely been the Cubs MO.

Sullivan was probably too busy working on another Special Report to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on drunk Cubs fans to make more than one phone call.

It's pretty obvious why Cub fans are drunk all the time. We're just trying to dull the pain of being Cub fans.

Whether Ramirez accepts a lower offer from the Cubs is the key question because he figures to spark a major bidding war between the two Los Angeles teams.

dear jim,

grow a pair and MATCH THE OFFER.

not so much love,

miserable cubs fans

I sincerely think Hendry is too nice to be an effective GM. He's too trustworthy and tries to be fair to everyone.

While those are admirable qualities in many professions, they don't serve him well here.

Hendry was ill-prepared because he always assumed that Ramirez wouldn't leave. He stayed with Baker too long because he wanted to "do the right thing." This also was likely why he didn't move Pierre when he should have or at least brought up Pie to play regardless of Pierre's streak.

If Hendry can't get Ramirez in the fold, maybe it's time to cut him loose now.

It's long past time to let him loose. But better late than never, before he can do even more damage.

Regardless of whether Ramirez leaves or not, if Hendry still has a job with the Cubs he needs to be held responsible for delivering a winner in 2007, no excuses, regardless of how impossible the job seems. He created this mess with lousy moves, he needs to be held responsible for fixing it. Screwing up what they had in 2003 is unacceptable, period, and he needs to be held accountable.
