I'll be pretty surprised if Hendry lets Blanco walk. I don't see Jim giving up the tendancy to give multi-year deals to terrible players who could easily be replaced by guys who make major league minimum.

Although, I do find it quite amusing that Blanco is coming off a career year.

Oh come on. How can you forget his 2000 season?

What an IsoD.

Well, I really hope we don't end up carrying five catchers on the 40 man roster. If they re-sign Blanco, please remove either Soto or Reyes when Fox gets added.

so durham and dave roberts are both type A? i'm hoping our other type A signing is a bigger impact player than those two.

I'm wondering if this stuff transfers over to the new CBA, though.

The classifications don't apply to the CBA, but either way, it came out after the new CBA.

What do you mean by this? If I'm not mistaken, the rules for ranking free agents are specified in the CBA.

Maybe this should be in its own thread, but I was thinking about what Hendry said about Dempster and all the confidence he, Piniella and Rothschild have in him. I can't help thinking they are just trying to increase his trade value.

I'm tentatively very happy. But we're just back to where we were...I want additions now please.

yeah, i'm very happy hendry was able to keep ramirez. but, as of right now, his only accomplishment is keeping together one of the worst teams in baseball...i'll save my praise for hendry once he improves the team.

the only other thing that I am waiting for besidies adding new players is finding out if Hendry will have Rusch's salary to play with.

I think that's very, very unlikely.

Why do you say that? Since it was only a two year contract, I'd guess they would have had no problem getting it insured.

I believe it's less than common to have smaller contracts insured. I could be wrong about that.

Even if it were insured, I assume that there would be a non-trivial deductable.

Regardless, Rusch would have to be unwilling and/or unable to pitch. I expect him to come to camp and try to pitch.

I don't think the doctors are going to let him pitch, at least not at the beginning of the year. We might not get the insurance because he might be ready near the end of the year, but I heard it was potentially life-threatening if he came back that early.

The timing of this all was so odd, especially given the final figures that were released. I wonder if the 11th hour notice was a little gamesmenship to influence other teams bids for Matsuzaka and Iwamura. Did the Iwamura bidding period end Saturday?

What happened to the Jim Hendry bashing?

Reserved for when he misses out on all the non-cub FAs.

It is funny that he's suddenly getting some love even though the 2007 team is identical to the 2006 version so far.

I agree the Wood and Ramirez deals were very good moves, I just find it a little funny.
