I found out my wife will be going to Chicago for a meeting the same weekend as Cubs Convention, so I decided to tag along with her so I could attend my first CC.

Who here has gone? What did you think?

Is it difficult to get tickets when they go on sale next week?

Should I take a camera with me, or will that be too geeky?

Tickets are always hard to get, make sure you get them next week if you plan to go.

NOTHING is too geeky at this thing. I have gone 4 times (and going again this year) Cameras are everywhere, balls, batts, jerseys, anything you could imagine that can be signed.

Be prepared to wait in long lines if yuo want autographs, the Q & A', are more often than not SRO as well.

Get a hotel room. It makes the whole thing much more worthwhile because there aren't really places to sit down and relax and you'll get tired walking around all day.

Also, before you go, get a schedule and plan out who you want to see -- you won't be able to do everything, so make the best of your time.

Where do you get tickets, Cubs.com?

They go on sale next week and I think you need to call the Cubs.

Bringing a camera would not be geeky at all. Think of the Cubs Convention somewhere along the lines of a Star Trek convention. The best part of the convention for me was hanging out in the bar at the hotel at night with all of the Cub fans and a few of the old time Cubs love to sit around and b.s.

So it's not bringing the camera that's the issue, it's showing up in the first place?

Have you ever been to one? I think it's a lot of fun. Just fans talking baseball...

No, I haven't. Just remarking on the comparison to the Star Trek convention.

I've been to a few Cubs conventions but never a Star Trek convention for comparison. How many Trek convention have you been to, badgercub?

I guess I didn't really mean to imply it is geeky, but the fans are pretty rabid. I have had a blast at the couple of conventions I have been to. Although it is almost getting to be too crowded and the lines are quite long. People will start lining up for autographs around 5 in the morning when the doors don't open til like 8 or 9.

Vance, have checked into what the prevailing weather conditions will be like? January in Chicago can be brutal. You may want to ask some of the NSBB members if they will lend you some clothing. As a resident of Louisiana you may not own anything suitable. :P

Seriously, I wish I could go too.

The Hilton is booked. Can anyone reccomend hotels close to it. The cheaper the better!

And I know what you mean about clothing. I'll definitely have to layer. I might have to ask for some more cashmere sweaters for Christmas.

Actually, this IS my Christmas present!

The Essex Inn is right by there. I hear its cheap but its somewhere around Holiday Inn quality. Also there is a Days Inn on Harrison and Wabash about 3 blocks from the Hilton. Not sure what you're budget is like, but theres also the Palmer House Hilton a little farther away but nicer.

Thanks. I'll check into those.
