I've been doing the auto thing for awhile. Any tips are always appreciated though.

When I go see the Cubs on the road, I'll wait for them to get out of their cabs and have done fairly well with that.

Oh, I'm sure you'll do fine then.

And the autograph lines aren't a total waste of time, but if you're counting on them for the bulk of your signatures - or as a way to get tough autographs - you'll be disappointed.

I'll be at Len and Bob's bah at the House of Blues. Can you still get passes for the convention, or can you buy them at the hotel?

You can get them on eBay or Stubhub, but they've been sold out for a long time.

For those of you who are going to the convention or convention-related events, we open up some threads in the Events Forum beforehand. It would be great if you could post about goings-on there and your experiences at the convention. Pictures welcome! :)

I'll probably spend all my time in the autograph lines...but if I get any good info, I'll post.

I'm not into autographs. At all.

But if you want to get signatures, your best bet is to hang out in the hotel and catch players as they leave restaurants, bars, etc. The first night of the convention is especially good for that sort of thing.

It really depends on what you want out of the encounter too. I have gone the last 4 years (and will be there this year too) and there is usually a large group of fans waiting by the front lobby for the players to come through. When someone does walk through they generally get mobbed and you'll have to reach over and through a dozen people and will end up with a quick rushed signature that may or may not be where and how you wanted it.

It also depends on your disposition. I would much rather stand in line, get a nice signature signed with the writing instrument of my choice, take a picture, shake their hand, and say a few short words than the mob scene I described earlier.

It is true that the waiting in line approach will only net you a few autographs per day, and the lines can be brutally long. The event itself is extremely disorganized and the people in charge are unapologetic and generally not very helpful. If you prepare yourself for that, and can accept the event for what it is - a chance to meet the people we all watch on TV, you should have a great time.

My passes arrived in the mail today. Who else is going?

I'm going. I went last year. It was fun, but kinda crazy. I thought I was a pretty darn big Cubs fan...there are some absolute nuts out there...no offense guys

I'm going. It's my 4th straight year. It's bascially Cubs fans verision of the Star Trek Convention. My Wife and I always get a kick outta it. It's fun to see and hear players insight into the game.
