Plane ticket is purchased and I have a reservation at the Essex. I can always cancel if I learn of a better hotel option.

Any tips or reccomendations with be greatly appreciated.

How close do you want to be? If you just want to be downtown just go on hotwire.com. I stayed in a 5-star hotel one weekend for $80.

Otherwise if you want to stay up on Lincoln Park there are some Days Inns that have just been remodeled and are close to the Brown line which in turn will take you to the Hilton via the Loop.

I'm looking into the Essex, the Days Inn on Harrison and Wabash, and the Congress Plaza. All are about the same price.

Has anyone any experience with either?

Stay away from Congress Plaza Hotel!!! The lobby is beautful, as are the hallways and elevators...

But the rooms are horribly obsolete, and reek of mildew!

A much better bet (and I used to travel around Chicagoland all the time for my old job) is the Hampton Inn on Illinois (at Dearborn). Similarly, the Courtyard by Marriott is relatively luxurious...

Or you could go find comparably priced rooms at the House of Blues, my favorite hotel in Chicago.

Good luck!

1) Does anyone know the exact day Hendry will be speaking at the convention

2) If I buy a ticket does it have to be for that specific date, or is it valid on any day?

All attendees of the convention, remember to bring rotten fruit and vegetables, and proper heckling lexicon. That is all .

It is a weekend pass. There are no individual day tickets.

It's going to be SOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun at my first Cubs Convention!

Don't get arrested.

I'll be the guy getting arrested. You will see cops dragging me out of the Hilton as I scream "I hate you Hendry"/

McDonough,

Please invite Sosa to this year's convention....

Even in his days as a Cubs folk hero, Sammy Sosa often had trouble working the Cubs Convention into into his busy off-season schedule.

But he's willing to consider an appearance if the Cubs are considering inviting him.

"I am available," Sosa said.

This is comparable to having a really hot ex who gave you some awesome times together, but you also broke up with her in an ugly way after she lost her looks and went crazy, now trying to get back together with you and doing it in kind of a sad and vaguely desperate way.

For those of you who are going to the convention or convention-related events, we open up some threads in the Events Forum beforehand. It would be great if you could post about goings-on there and your experiences at the convention. Pictures welcome! :)

I'll probably spend all my time in the autograph lines...but if I get any good info, I'll post.

My passes arrived in the mail today. Who else is going?

Not me. I'm enjoying it in my fine tradition. Listening to the player and ron and pat interviews on the radio. Then proceeding to listen to them again, and again, for weeks, until spring training starts.

Just incase anyone wanted to know.

Have fun though!!

I'm not into autographs. At all.

But if you want to get signatures, your best bet is to hang out in the hotel and catch players as they leave restaurants, bars, etc. The first night of the convention is especially good for that sort of thing.

If I still lived in Chicago, I'd introduce you to a group of autograph enthusiasts that attends every Cubs Convention. They know where to wait for players, when to approach them, and when to leave them alone.

One of those guys is a friend of mine who's probably in his 60's now and has been collecting autographs for years. He has two or three rooms full of autographed stuff at his house. He's a big Cubs fan, but he gets autographs of opposing teams when they're in town, too. For example, he's got a bat that's autographed by Roger Clemens, Jim Rice, Ted Williams, and just about every other great Red Sox player you could think of. And he gets all the signatures himself. I'd guess if he ever sells all of his stuff, it'll be worth millions. Sometimes when he went out of town, he'd take his 20 or so most valuable bats and ask me to keep them at my house while he was gone.

I let that guy talk me into going to the Cubs Convention with him one year, and I helped him get a lot of signatures, but it's not my thing at all.

I like what Greg Maddux, for example, can do on the baseball field, but I don't care about how he signs his name.
