maybe we're getting the bad stuff out of the way so 2007 can be fun

Based on the last few years, expect the Cobs to go undefeated in 2007.

I told a few friends of mine today, How far can this go? After 03, the two other "cursed" teams winning, 2nd of which being the White Sox in one of the luckiest baseball seasons in the history of mankind, the Cards winning in a season where even a moderately successful (instead of abject failure) offseason and even bad (instead of terrible) luck would have gotten us into the playoffs over them, I mean, how far can this "God hates us all" thing go? What else can go wrong? I honestly can't think of one thing that could rationally happen that could convince me any further that God hates Cubs fans.

This isn't the "worst time ever" because the Cards might win the Series....it's because THE CUBS ARE A JOKE!!!!

Far too much misdirected anger by Cubs fans.

I don't think it's misdirected, I think it's more "kicking us while we're down."

I fully expect the Indians and Giants to win a WS before we do at the rate things are going.

Heck, might as well throw the Astros, Devil Rays, Rockies, and Rangers onto that list while we're at it.

"And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." -Romans 5:3-4

"My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in." -Proverbs 3:11-12

I think there's a special place in heaven for Cubs fans.

This is the worst 2 years of my life as a sports fan. Seriously I cant even crack a smile right now....this is just bad. Honestly, I really really honestly feel like there is someone upstairs just pointing down at me and laughing and devising more ways to make me feel miserable. Every time I feel like we've hit rock bottom as Cubs fans, something else happens. It's unbelievable. And through it all, I can't not continue to be a Cubs fan. This is a sick and horrible joke.

We are the disgrace of baseball folks, I hope you all realize that.

What if there's baseball in heaven and the Cubs win every year? ....This is getting pretty deep, I think we need the Pope to make a ruling on this.

That'd be hell for Cardinals fans.

i wish i could gamble on things like this, but id be willing to wager that a team that does not currently exist will win the world series before the cubs do.

No, its because of a combination of things. This is just the last straw.

The 'Cards were well on thier way to starting a good streak of post-season futility themselves (25 years), and they're now on the verge of winning it all.

The Sox won it all last year.

TThe Red Sox the year before, and the spectacular Cubs collapse the previous year.

When is it our turn to win it all?

And now, the team has a new problem. Suppose we win it all one year. We will keep hearing the mantra of "Ooo. 1 WS victory in 125 years!" (FYI, I think the Cubs futility streak goes on for 25 more years), unless the Cubs become a dominant force for years to come.

OUCH.

I agree. This is the worst time ever to be a Cub fan. All curses are gone except ours, now the Cards are going to win it----and with the worst team they've had in years, no less----and there really is precious little light at the end of the tunnel with our club.

Go Bears. And Bulls.

I never post, just really read the topics. However, growin up on the South Side with Sox fans and goin to college in central IL with Cards fans I feel that I could speak for 3 generations in my family that this is the worst time ever being a cub fan.

I hate this team. I hate the fact that, despite the colossal collapse at the end, the time spent with my head in the clouds in 2003 is enough to keep me around through what has happened since. Every day and year and new amazing way to lose is just another kick in the head. I have experienced so greater sense of worthlessness or futility that rivals being a Cubs fan.

Come on! Look at the future...Glendon will lose 40 lbs, stop taking the anticoagulants for the pulmonary embolism (and also NOT die of a head bleed in the process)...and then he will carry us on his back next year with 25 wins...

Right? Right?

It is absolutely the worst time in history to be a Cubs fan...thank God the beer is still cold.

Um... I'm fully opening up myself to a verbal beatdown, but didn't a certain northside team think they were going to win a series, while up 3-1?

*ducks flying objects*

HOWEVER ... to switch the focus back to the Cardinals... they too had a 3-1 lead in a World Series and lost 4-3 to the Royals... THE ROYALS!!

Come on guys, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Look back at 1968. The Cardinals led the Tigers 3 - 1. The parade in St. Louis was planned. Everyone had written off the Tigers. Cocky Cardinal fans were talking dynasty. Bob Gibson of the 1.12 ERA was waiting in the wings to close out the series.

But then all of a sudden the Tigers started getting the breaks and a certain left handed pitcher named Lolich (can you say Rogers) who had been overshadowed all year by other pitchers on the staff saved the day.

Jeff Weaver is no Bob Gibson. If the Tigers can win tonight, Rogers wins game six and then it all comes down to game 7 in Detroit.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, they're playing the Cardinals and not the Cubs.

I hate to say it, but I believe the reason they made it this far is Larussa. It seems he gets every player in a chance where they could easily succeed. While the Tigers and Mets were one always one goof away from blowin it. I can honestly say Larussa is probabaly one of the top managers in recent MLB history.
