Come on! Look at the future...Glendon will lose 40 lbs, stop taking the anticoagulants for the pulmonary embolism (and also NOT die of a head bleed in the process)...and then he will carry us on his back next year with 25 wins...

Right? Right?

It is absolutely the worst time in history to be a Cubs fan...thank God the beer is still cold.

It is however an excellent time to be a beer fan.

Having lived through 1984 and then 1985, I can live with 2003 and 2004. It's 2005 and 2006 I can't live with. I'm thankful I no longer live in St. Louis.

Trust me...it is brutal. I've never been more angry at the Cubs...how can they expect fans to suffer through this crap when our absolute two biggest rivals are defending WS champs....

I'm so glad I'm out of stL. It's like leaving a city just days before a nuclear attack.

Those people don't deserve another WS. and that TEAM doesn't deserve one. They're bad, for a playoff team. Just bad.

And the worst thing is, it's hard to get excited for our chances in '07. Damn.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, they're playing the Cardinals and not the Cubs.

This Cardinals team is worse than the Cubs '03 team. I'm still having trouble conceiving that they made it this far. Damn Mets.

A lot of teams are worse than the '03 Cubs, and a lot are better than this Cardinals team. That's just one of the many logs heaped onto the Being a Cubs Fan Sucks fire.

I want to be as far away from Wrigley (and Chicago) as possible when the smug Cards fans come to town next season.

This isn't the "worst time ever" because the Cards might win the Series....it's because THE CUBS ARE A JOKE!!!!

Far too much misdirected anger by Cubs fans.

No, its because of a combination of things. This is just the last straw.

The 'Cards were well on thier way to starting a good streak of post-season futility themselves (25 years), and they're now on the verge of winning it all.

The Sox won it all last year.

TThe Red Sox the year before, and the spectacular Cubs collapse the previous year.

When is it our turn to win it all?

And now, the team has a new problem. Suppose we win it all one year. We will keep hearing the mantra of "Ooo. 1 WS victory in 125 years!" (FYI, I think the Cubs futility streak goes on for 25 more years), unless the Cubs become a dominant force for years to come.

I could care less what they say. If the Cubs won the World Series, nothing could damage the moment

I hate to say it, but I believe the reason they made it this far is Larussa. It seems he gets every player in a chance where they could easily succeed. While the Tigers and Mets were one always one goof away from blowin it. I can honestly say Larussa is probabaly one of the top managers in recent MLB history.

I will never call LaRussa a bad manager, but he's not a great one. His decision making in past post-season games cost the Cards more trips to the World Series. I give more credit to Jeff Suppan and Yadier Molina for stepping it up. Had Suppan pitched in the post-season the way he pitched in the regular season and Molina hit in the post-season as he did in the regular season, the Cards would be home watching the Series with the rest of us.

I hate the Cardinals 1000000000000000000000000x more than I hate the White Sox, and living in Cardinals territory will make it unbearable for all of winter.

It's unbelieveable that a team with so many bums is going to win the World Series.

Should we create a therapy group for the Cubs fans trapped in Cards land.

Misery loves company ... I didn't want to read this thread but felt compelled to.

I always include Houston in the short list of archrivals. I hate that team almost as much as the Cards or Sox.

So those three arch-rivals have already won 4 out of 6 pennants the past three years and are about to take 2 out of 3 crowns.

A friend of mine who's a Cards fan smiled at me today:

"Why so glum?"

Me: "You know damn well why."

Him (laughing): "Jealous much?"

Of course I'm jealous - I admit it.

I'd almost rather that the Cards had won with their 2004 juggernaut than this mediocre-but-suddenly-overachieving squad. But watching the Red Sox win that year was the only baseball joy I've felt since the Cubs beat Atlanta in 2003.

Yep, these are the worst of times. :(

Every time I see this thread, I can't help but think of the Styx tune 'The Best of Times'

The headlines read these are the worst of times...

I do believe its true...

Same here. Oddly enough, I don't really have strong feelings against the other NL Central teams outside of the Cardinals and the Astros. I don't know know why, but seeing the Brewers, Pirates or Reds win it all wouldn't get to me as much as the other two.

The Cardinals are the Cardinals, and the Astros have been above average to great since the mid 1990s. The other 3 have been mostly bad for 20 years with a few exceptions (hey, kinda like us!) What I want to know is why fans of every team in the NL Central have this bitter hate for us for some reason.

Are they who you thought they were?

Sorry, the combination of "Cardinals" and SportsCenter talking about the Bears-Niners game today made me think of that line and I couldn't resist.

I think many Cubs fans are feeling much like Green now. Very dissapointed, angry, depressed. Everything. .

YOU WANT TO CROWN EM!? THEN CROWN THEIR ASSES!!

well, I guess after watching the Flyers prove they have no hope of winning this year, and watching a crappy kicker from Tampa make a game-ending 62 yard field goal against the Eagles, what better way to cap off October than another huge kick to the groin. Be happy you guys had the Bulls in the '90s. I'll be six feet under before a team I root for wins a championship.

Let's hope Hendry doesn't decide what the Cubs need is a David Eckstein clone.

Perhaps Mini Me has already been signed by Jim Hendry to play a weak armed SS next season.
