Gosh...that is difficult to watch.

The end of that season was a blur, but I do remember we were close and managed to blow it.

How did we loose with all those guys?

Due to Hurrican Ivan(?) we ended up having to play 24 games in 22 days or something like that.

Hawkins also really sucked if my memory serves me correctly.[/quote

Yes, especially in that 4 game Cinci series. I went to the game, and after he blew it I came how and changed my user name to "Hawkinsruined2k4" for a few months.

What hilarious is that the player who had the best 2004 (Aramis) was on that highlight montage the same number of times as Neifi Perez and Jose Macias.

Aramis and the starting rotation were the only Cubs doing anything in September. That was an absolute kick to the crotch season.

The best moment of that season was Sammy's diving catch at Pittsburgh with the bases loaded to preserve a 1-0 win.

Worst moment was a few weeks later with that no-name Mets player hitting that homer.

Man that team was loaded. I still can't believe they only won 89 games. Freakin' Cubs. At least I had a reason to watch baseball through September that year.

Sosa, Alou, Lee, Aramis, Barrett, Nomar...

Sweet Jesus, that's not right.

Yeah, but it was Lee before he was Lee and Sosa after he was Sosa.

yeah, guess what the only Cubs game I attended the entire year was...

thanks for the reminder that the cubs used to be fun

are you kidding??? the end of the 2004 season was about as fun as a fart in church.

A fart in church is fun. The end of that season was about as fun as a doberman biting you in the nuts.

yeah, and of course the only Cubs game I attended all year was the most painful loss of the season, the one that sent them on a downward spiral. I really need to rant about sports. I'm going to work and sleeping, then I'm making a rant.

i attended the final game of the season, and my bottle of liquor was taken away at the gate. I also spent the entire game arguing with a guy in the stands because I said that Dusty sucked and he disagreed with me.

No. The USMNT's World Cup was like a doberman biting you in the nuts. September 2004 was like getting your nuts caught in a vice grip, and then having them twisted for like 3 straight weeks, and then having battery acid and rubbing alcohol dumped on the wound.

it's the last time in a long time that we'll care about the cubs in september

I couldn't pick one moment if I tried. It was just the most fun season of baseball I've ever followed, less the last couple of weeks.

Watching video of 2003 is about a million times harder than watching video of 2004. At least for me.

Yesterday I was reading an ESPN game recap of one of the NLCS games that year, where they mentioned Prior as being the best pitcher in the major leagues, and talked about how much momentum the cubs had. I got choked up and couldn't even continue reading.

I take total blame for the cubs in '04 and beyond. I arrive in chicago for my first time at wrigley on the Fri of the Mets series. Rex blows his knee on the sunday in Minn and as i watch the other screen in espn zone hawkins blows the game. I had tix for all 4 cin games and just watched the season slip away. I returned to england and joked with my friends that it just wouldn't of been right watching the cubs rock in that last week and fly in to the playoffs. It was just so.........cubs....when will the good times come back??? :(

*sigh*

My two favorite memories that year are probably sitting in my hotel in Albuquerque watching ESPN, and I see scrolling along the bottom that the Cubs traded for Nomar. I just thought to myself, how the heck did they do that?! Then, a few days later, we were driving through Colorado listening to the Cubs whoop up on the Rockies, and I was amazed at all the Cubs fans you could here.

it's really depressing to look back and see how good this team should have been.

fitting that the only game i got to that season was the one where pujols hit 3 bombs and the cardinals came back from like 7 down to win. ugh.

I was so excited before the 2004 season. Then I had tickets to the second to last game of the season. I just knew I was going to be there when they clinched. Instead, I was there on the day they were officially eliminated. Here's to hoping for another exciting season in 2007. I could use one, especially going to school in southeast Missouri with the campus 99.5% Cardinal fans.

Walker's slide with Ron yelling "COME ON! COME ON!" off of Bradford, who was (I believe) pitching lights out at that point in the season.

Freaking out when we got Nomar.

and for a brief moment, Sammy making the catch of his career, completely laying out before LaTroy blew it (again).

Phew, what a season

The last 6 weeks of 2004 are the only six weeks I didn't follow the Cubs very well. I left for Germany on the 20th of August for a 5-week class. I still had regular internet access, but listening to or watching any of the games was a lost cause. On the 23rd of September, I left for two weeks of backpacking, fairly confident that there would be Cubs baseball still happening when I returned to the states on the 6th of October. One look at the season's final standings, and I considered myself lucky to have missed it and refused to torture myself by learning much more about it.

Telling my buddies all year that I wouldn't trade for Nomar if we had to give up Clement, then being absolutely psyched when we didn't have to. (Still wouldn't have done it.)

Walker's Superman slide, which I watched with my best friend. Another thing I did with my best friend: started our annual tradition of spending one series at Wrigley for the SD games of 8/11 and 8/12, the 2nd of which Froemming helped to screw us out of before LaTroy (who else) finished the job.

Honestly feels like something exciting was going on every single day with that team.

Anyone know, is it possible to save the videos from YouTube to your hard drive? I had this same clip, including the part when Chip talks about this being his last game and Stoney getting married, saved on my Tivo until the hard drive bit it. I loved watching it on a cold day during the winter when I'm jonesing for some baseball.
