As sports illustrated has so apply pointed out NY if they pursue anybody it is for a thrid basemen replacement and Scot Rolen is a great target, but how do we get into a four way or threeway with the Cardinals.

They could easily get a 3B in some other way besides in the trade for ARod. If they are serious about trying to get more role players on offense, there are plenty of available guys who can play third and hit 7th or 8th.

We could resign ARam then trade him but that is stupid, because we need a SS not a guy that hates third like ARod.

What are our assets that we are willing to give up? Can we compile a list first?

Would we give up Hill, Marshall? Please never John Mabre

Why do they have to get a 3B in the ARod trade. If they got a potential ace like Dontrelle Willis and some bullpen help, couldn't they sign Soriano to play third, or shift Cano to 3rd and Soriano to second? Or sign Nomar to play third?

I also don't think the Yankees need a 3b in exchange. My guess is they will be looking for pitching. They will want a number one starter or they will want a 2-3 starter with bullpen help. The Cubs could likely meet those demands.

As someone else posted, they could easily make a separate trade for a 3b or sign one.

You are correct, I just was thinking of there perpencity for high profile players like Rolen. The boss never thinks small.

then again what assets are expendable and worth an AROD?

Would the Yanks want Barrett? He could slide to third or they could trade for him to catch and then move Posada.

I'm not a huge fan of trading Barrett, but he is thirty years old...in any case it would certainly be an example of selling high since Barrett's trade value will probably never be higher than it is right now.

Haven't seen this posted anywhere. I'm assuming by ARod for Prior they mean Prior, Pie, Eyre, Izturis, and some pitching prospects.

I don't think they wan't Pie as they have no room for him when he does eventually come up. A Prior, Eyre, Izturis, and Marshall for A-Rod.

I wouldn't mind taking a bad contract like Pavano along with it to help the deal.

Damon is getting old, Bernie is old, Shefield will be gone and Matsui only has a few years left.

I think they'd want Pie in a big way. They might even want Patterson to ship off Cano for more pitching. They need middle relief and starters of course.

I would trade Hill/Marshall, Howry and Pie for A-Rod. I don't think they'll want Prior. They probalby want Big Z but they'd have to throw in Tabathia before I would consider it, and I wouldn't give anything else.

If the Yankees do deal A-Rod, they will “go after a guy like Mark DeRosa” because Cashman is said to admire the University of Pennsylvania product's grit, ability to play several positions, and desire to win at all costs.

great stuff.

Every team in the major leagues not named the Devil Rays has room for Pie (there probably are a couple more).

BA says he's not even a top 10 prospect at his position.
