Ouch, SIU drops to 35th and 41st in the polls. I didn't think the loss to Arkansas would lose us that many votes. We have two games this week that we should win easily in going to Louisiana Tech and playing Saint Louis at home.

Doug Gottlieb is a POS. On Gamenight last night he talked about what a big win the Florida game was for Bill Self. I agree. But then he went on to say how Self has saved Illinois program. Hello there Doug do your homework. Lon Kruger won a Big Ten chmpionship with us and recuited four 5 stars and Corey Bradford for Bill to use to save us? Kruger saved our program, Self continued it.

gottlieb is one of espn's best commentator's when he's talking about the Big XII, his specialty, but I'm not sure about the rest of his CBB knowledge.

That's great Kruger is from KState a Big 12 school maybe Doug should have researched a bit before his annointed Bill Self basketball coach jesus. The guy has always done a nice job of following good coaches and building off of what they have done. Tubby, Lon, and Roy are all good coaches who set up his programs and then he ran with it.

He did build ORU from the ashes. And while he did come into talent at UI, he also left them with a ton of talent. Weber did a phenomenal job in '05, but you guys don't go to the championship game if Self hadn't brought in so many of those players.

The weirdest thing is that, aside from ORU, Self's biggest "rebuilding" job has probably been at KU. We had a lot of mediocre talent due to Roy's every-other-year recruiting style while he was at Kansas. Simien was very good offensively, Langford was good until his knees went, and Miles could distribute and D up. After that, we were essentially stocked w/ role players, especially after Padgett transferred.

Come on now. Simien and Miles were great. Miles a MCDAA. Langford was good. He also had Giddens another burger boy. Also Padgett was a burger boy. In other words more talent than Weber had at Illinois. i will concede ORU to you he did a nice job there. But, still Gottlieb called him a savior of Illinois program and that is just wrong and offensive to a fan of Lon Kruger.

Speaking of Giddens, he's doing things out at UNM. I know Colorado may be the worst team in the Big 12 this year, but UNM still beat them by 41. They beat Huggins and Co. by 24 last week too.

Giddens can play. The guy was the third rated sg in america in his class behind LeBron and Shannon Brown.

Did I seriously just read that you guys (TT, Cubbies75) were rooting for kU? Umm, what?!

The higher they climb, the harder they fall. Plus it helps Mizzou for kU to win against a good non-con opponent(conference strength, strength of schedule, etc.). I want kU to be as highly ranked as possible for both our games against them.

So you'll be rooting for kU in every game up til the time they play us? Wow.

I'll root against kU every day of the year, regardless of who they play. You'll probably hate them as much as I do after you spend another couple years in Columbia.

Miles was good at what he did, distribute and play d. But roy didn't leave us w/ any players to distribute to. Langford was prolly the most talented until he blew his knees out. By senior year, he just wasn't explosive. Watching him fr/so year was a thiing to behold, though.

I forgot about Giddens. He coulda been something, but he didn't have his stuff together. I hope he keeps it up a UNM. I always liked him.

And yes, padgett was good, but Padgett wanted to play for Roy, not Bill, and there were rumors about him transferring the second he stepped on campus.

The fact is, we had NO depth when Self got here, especially when the post roy transfers happened. That's why we have so many fresh/sophs playing key roles this year. Roy left him little.

Georgetown 69, BSU 54. Pretty obvious that offense is going to be this team's deficiency. Next up is Indiana State on Saturday.

And ND barely escapes Lehigh 93-87. Next is Winston-Salem State on Wednesday as the run through the gauntlet continues.

Don't worry Mizzou. I cheer against kU all the time. I went to the game out in Lawrence for football last year. Not a pleasant experience.

I will also be attending my first game Thursday. Hopefully we get a decent crowd.

UCLA vs. Long Beach State at Pauley tomorrow evening.

Bruins are #1 in the AP poll (first time since 1995 :D), #2 behind Ohio State in the ESPN/USA Today.

By the way, the program that Ben Howland built up before coming to UCLA - Pittsburgh - is #2 in the AP and #2 in the ESPN/USA Today.

Big 10/ACC Challenge continues tonight.

ACC leads 1-0 after NC St. beat UM last night.

All times are Central time zone.

MD at Illinois 6 PM (ESPN

FSU at Wisconsin 630 PM (ESPN2)

Penn St. at Georgia Tech 7 PM (ESPNU)

Indiana at Duke 8 PM (ESPN)

Miami at Northwestern 830 PM (ESPN2)

I like the Big 10 to take 3 tonight(but I'm a homer)

If they manage to tie it at 3 tonight, I think it's quite possible they can finally get a win in this thing with tomorrow's matchups

MSU at BC 6 PM (ESPN)

Iowa at Va Tech 6 PM (ESPN)

VA at Purdue 630 PM (ESPN2)

OSU at UNC 8 PM (ESPN)

Clemson at Minnesota 830 PM (ESPN2)

In total, IU/Duke, PSU/Ga Tech, and Clemson/Minnesota look like guaranteed wins for the ACC. FSU/Wisky is the only "guaranteed win" for the Big 10. So we need to go 5-1 in the "toss ups"

So, anyway, Big Ten-ACC challenge starts today.

Matchups:

Monday:

- Michigan @ NC State, 7pm EST

Tuesday:

- Maryland @ Illinois, 7pm EST

- Florida State @ Wisconsin, 7:30pm EST

- Penn State @ Georgia Tech, 8:00pm EST

- Indiana @ Duke, 9:00pm EST

- Miami @ Northwestern, 9:30pm EST

Wednesday:

- Michigan State @ Boston College, 7pm EST

- Virginia @ Purdue, 7:30pm EST

- Iowa @ Virginia Tech, 8:00pm EST

- Ohio State @ North Carolina, 9:00pm EST

- Clemson @ Minnesota, 9:30pm EST

Obviously, the marquee matchup is OSU @ UNC, and there are some bad mismatches among teams (PSU@GT, IU@Duke, FSU@UW). I'm really looking forward to watching Michigan/NC State, Maryland/Illinois, and MSU/BC, as those look like good matchups aside from OSU/UNC.

How badly will IU lose tonight? Me thinks the line is at 13 or 14.

Is Miami really that bad (no offense, Jon and contable)?

The real question is how much PSU will lose to GT. My guess is 32.

I do think the Big 10 can win three games tonight--Illinois, Wisconsin, and even NU have good chances of winning tonight. Hopefully IU doesn't put up that much of an embarassing performance.

I'm worried that IU will be embarrassed. If it was February, I'd give them a much better shot-but right now, they are still trying to find their identity. It will be a very tough game, and D.J. will have to have a big night along with a nice 3 point shooting percentage to be able to have a chance to win.

Would losses to Buffalo and Cleveland St. answer your question?

The passive defensive rebounding continues. Mike Jones is by far the most talented player on the court. And I still don't like Warren Carter.

Best name ever. I'm surprised the Krush hasn't started any chants directed at him.

I'm not the biggest Carter fan in the world either, but he's the only one that is playing at least halfway decent right now. For Illinois to win this game, Jamar is going to have to find his shot in the 2nd half.

Well, Holy Cross played at Syracuse last night and only lost 72-64. Not bad at all. I think we should be pretty good this year - hopefully better than friggin Bucknell.

You out rebounded us and had to come from behind but couldn't quite make it over the hump. Willard was pretty pleased that Syracuse would play him as they have had a tough time getting the "big" schools to play them since they've done pretty well in the NCAA's. I think you guys will do quite well.
