does anyone else think memphis benefits from playing in conference usa and are not a top 5 team? i've seen them play several times this year and always come away unimpressed mainly because of the teams they beat.

to be fair, you can't blame them for all the good teams bolting frrom CUSA. Cincy, Louisville, DePaul, Marquette, Charlotte and St. Louis all had varying degrees of success in basketball, with the first four obviously being the best historically. And, schools like UTEP, USM, Tulsa and UAB, which have had decent programs in the past, really were nothing to speak about this year. Memphis won the games that it played, which is all they can do, really.

i don't blame them for the losses of those teams, wasn't really under their control...i just don't see why some pollsters think they are a top 5 team when they haven't beaten anybody this year...cusa was cupcake city this year and they have benefitted greatly...they may prove me wrong and waltz through the ncaa's, but i highly doubt it.

I'll mention it here just to drum up some interest, but it's about that time to start thinking about the mock selection committee we've done the last couple years. Hopefully bukie will run it again, cause I'm incompetent.

What's the process (besides the obvious of selecting the teams)? It sounds interesting.

Sorry, missed this earlier. We do it over 3 or 4 days from Thursday-Sunday. We start with everyone submitting every team they think has an argument to be an at large team. I don't believe there's a limit on # of teams you can submit, but obviously you keep it within reason as it's unlikely anyone truly feels 70 teams have at large arguments.

After all those are submitted all teams that reach a certain %, (I know in the past we had it at 7 out of 9 ballots, but it depends on the # of people participating) are put in as locks. From there, all teams that received at least one vote, but less than the percentage are put into the bubble pool. You can make your case for any team you wish in the thread, and then by Friday night you rank all the bubble teams from 1 on down. After that a composite ranking figures out who the at large teams are at that point. If the chalk holds up in the final conference tourneys, teams that were just out would then be moved in as necessary. Finally once all the at larges are taken care of, there is a final 1-65 ranking of all the teams we've put in the tourney, the rankings are combined, and we come up with our own field of 65. In the 2 years we've done it we haven't had to deal with any Sunday spoilers putting a non at large into the tourney, so hopefully that holds out(on a personal level too) otherwise things can get confusing.

It sounds kind of daunting now that I re-read that, but really to participate doesn't take that much effort, and is fairly easy to zoom through if you've followed the season all year, which seems like you have. The tough stuff falls on the person who runs it compiling all the numbers which is why I'm shamelessly begging Bukie to run it again.

Sounds interesting and fun. If you/bukie decide to run it, I'm in.

Darn, they remembered it was me... :)

I can throw something together quickly, but I likely won't be at a computer Thursday until late, so I'll have to see how everything works out.

Colin Falls and Russell Carter both made the all-Big East first team, and Tory Jackson and Luke Harangody both made the all-Big East freshman team.

I'm excited for tomorrow. I'll be watching the first round of the Big East tourney most of the day.

And with a little more interest on the game at 2 I'll bet!

I don't like ND's draw. If we face you guys, I'm worried because Syracuse always steps it up in the Big East tourney. If we face UConn, I'm worried because they're an unknown quantity and, while underachieving, still very talented.

I think if the Irish can get one win they will probably get at least a 6-seed, and anything higher than that is gravy to me.

ALANDO TUCKER IS BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!!!!! NOW ON TO THE NAISMITH!!!

Was there any doubt? He was the shoe-in since this time last year.

Tucker, Oden, Neitzel, Haluska on coaches and media's first team.

Mike Conley Jr. on one, Geary Claxton on the other.

DJ White on 2nd team in both. Rod Wilmont 3rd team on both.

Arron makes ESPN's first team All-American. :)

He's getting all the accolades that Ed O'Bannon was getting in 1995, I hope Arron's NCAA career ends the same way (but he has a much better pro career).

You would think so, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel made it seem like he and oden were neck and neck. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=573316

Warren Carter was on the second team. There is no justice in this world. Warren, while good didn't step us and win us one big game all year. Thus he shouldn't be a 2nd team all conference pick.

That's pretty ridiculous if it was true.

NPOY should be Durant, no questions asked.

It really should. Watch out for Texas in the tourney. Durant could lead them to a championship. He is that good. He could do what Carmelo did a few years back.

Wow was pretty much my reaction too.

The Florida dude looks like he's about to fight aliens, and the Ohio State dude looks ready to meet her date for the prom. And I'm pretty sure that Syracuse dude just got out of a Mega Man convention.
