Missouri/aTm won't be close. I was unimpressed by aTm yesterday, despite their victory.

That was tough loss for you guys yesterday. I watched some of that and I underestimated kU. It's gonna be a battle in Columbia this year. So you think Mizzou will beat them? I hope so, but their running back scares me a little bit. It's gonna be much different facing this team than Texas Tech.

There's no way that ND beats USC at Southern Cal. No chance at all.

We beat USC last season with Bush and Leinert on the team. (Yes, we beat them. Bush's illegal move at the end gave USC a win they didn't earn.) What about this USC team makes you think they are so great?

Well, it's not that I think USC is so great, I just see nothing about the Irish that makes them very formidable.

I'm pretty sure there are at least ten teams that I'm sure would beat the Irish on most nights.

Posted

The Irish won't beat USC. Personally, I don't think ND is as good as their hype. They beat Penn State, but Penn state isn't an elite team. The only elite team they played was UM and they got their asses handed to them. MSU has shown they they aren't that good either and it took a miracle for ND to win that one.

Do you think LSU would beat USC?

P.S. Lets revisit this on Jan. 1 and talk about whether or not Georgia Tech is an elite team.

I think an LSU game vs USC could go either way. At Tiger Stadium, I think LSU wins 8 of 10...at USC, the Trojans win 8 of 10. At a neutral site, USC likely would win 6 of 10. That's my convoluted way of saying I think either team could win the game, but I do think USC is a little better.

Posted
At a neutral site or in Berkeley, Cal would beat Notre Dame 7-8 times out of 10.

Frankly, I find that ridiculous.

I'll say it right now...Cal will lose to USC and the Irish will beat USC in Southern Cal.

We shall see. Cal will have a tough time since the game is in LA. If it was in Berkeley I'd be sure they'd pull it off.

You really think ND is going to go to the stadium across the freeway from USC and beat them? Wow, we shall see.

After seeing Ty Willingham nearly lead a team to victory at USC, I'm less than impressed with the Trojans.

Washington is better than most of you non-West Coast folks think.

First off, that is never going to be called a penalty.

Secondly, that game was in Notre Dame, this one will be in Los Angeles.

And something I don't think you're understanding is that basing how a team performs in one game isn't the best way to predict how another game will turn out. If they played that USC-ND game from last year 10 times, how many times will it really be that close?

ND only beat Stanford 31-10. UCLA beat Stanford 31-0. Therefore, UCLA will beat Notre Dame in two weeks. ;)

Notre Dame 30, UCLA 17

What's your prediction?

Notre Dame wins 27-6.

6? Is your offense that bad? Even Stanford got 10.

I don't think it'll be much of a battle in CoMo this year. We turn the ball over, and we have trouble stopping the pass. Not a good recipe against you guys. I'm very depressed about this team. We should be 6-0, and we're 3-3. I'mm really starting to wonder if Mangino's the guy.

I think tech is a better team than aTm, and you guys handed it to them. We moved the ball fairly well through the air against aTm w/ our back-up qb. Daniels will have a field day against them.

As long as your run defense shows up, I don't see aTm as being a problem. If it's a road game, that MIGHT equalize a bit, but from what I've seen, you guys look pretty good. I think OU is the only team on your schedule with a good shot of beating you, unless you play UT, too.

Oh, you guys will pants Nebraska big-time.

NIU barely beat Miami Ohio tonight in front of about 3 people. Wolfe had a solid game with 162 yards and 2 TD's. NIU is definitely going to have their hands full next week against Western Michigan if we're struggling that much against an 0-5 Miami Ohio team.

SIU travels up to central Illinois to take on the #5 ISU Redbirds. Definitely one of the biggest I-AA games of the season. A win by SIU could legitimately start talk about going undefeated for the regular season. Hopefully Arkee Whitlock can run for about 200 more yards against the Redbirds; like he did to WIU yesterday. If our running game is strong as it usually is, we should be able to get a big win on the road.

Please stop telling us that we're good. It worries me for some reason.

The aTm game is in College Station. I'm worried about how we handle Lane+Lewis+McGee, but on the plus side Ziggy Hood will probably be back for that game(he broke his foot against UNM) to help as a run stopper. I agree about OU being the best team left on the schedule, although winning in Lincoln will be a tough task, and we won't play UT unless it's in KC for the BXII Championship.

I hope you're right. I really like the focus of this team. They're saying all the right things after winning the games. I'm gonna need to find a bar back in Chicago this week to watch the game at. Stupid Ohio State vs. Minnesota being the Chicago regional game.

I'm assuming Ben Olson has torn his knee up and Patrick Cowan will be playing at QB. Just key in on Markey/Bell, put some pressure on Cowan and there ya go. Maybe the offense can get a touchdown, but I'd be stunned if they got more than one. Our defense is really good though (it's so strange saying that).

We'd get an amazing crowd in KC if we somehow make it there. I know I'd make the trip.

Getting Ziggy back will be huge. The freshman who stepped in for Domonique Johnson had a solid game IIRC, so I'm not too worried about him. Their RBs are excellent, especially the 275+ pound guy, but we got the guys to shut them down. We gotta score early like we have all season (72-3 in the first quarter), and get the 12th Man out of it.

Nate Davis of Ball State is now ranked No. 1 in the country in passing efficiency with a 195.2 rating. Central Michigan, however, is 3-0 in the MAC, so it will be a stern test for the Cardinals. A win would put Ball State 1/2 game out of first, or in the lead in the West depending on tonight's NIU-Miami OH game.

Looking forward to that big Michigan game coming up?

BTW, I am calling it, this Michigan actually winning all of the games they should BS is going to eventually stop...Michigan will lose to Penn State. I hate to say it because I love the maize and blue, but they just don't ever get to the OSU game unscathed anymore and if any team will do it, its gonna be PSU on the road.

Edit: If Michigan wins their next 2 games, my optimism has no boundries so hurry up and lose before I get too high

wow, college football news updated their poll

1. Ohio State (6-0)

2. Florida (6-0)

3. Tennessee (5-1)

4. Michigan (6-0)

5. Texas (5-1)

6. California (5-1)

7. USC (5-0)

8. Missouri (6-0)

9. Louisville (5-0)

10. Notre Dame (5-1)

And as usual they're on crack.

What do you see is wrong with it? Just curious.

Cal #6 is a joke. Missouri in the top 10 is ridiculous. No way does Mizzou play a Louisville, Notre Dame, Auburn, etc and beat them. No disrespect to Mizzou, but they've played a soft schedule to get to 6-0. Play Oklahoma or Texas and beat them and then we can talk.

(Michigan behind Tennesse is also a mistake, but not a huge one.)

Cal #6 is a joke? No way. I have them at #7 right now. I would put them as a favorite over USC if they were to play next week.

Didn't Tennessee beat Cal. Why would Cal be ranked ahead of Tennesee?

Sorry, I meant #8 with Tennessee at #7. But I forgot about Louisville as an unbeaten. But I would never consider putting Cal ahead of Tennessee as long as they both have a loss. As far as I'm concenrned Tennessee is the top 1 loss team right now.

If you think that Cal is #7, then I find it hard to believe that Notre Dame isn't 7b. Compare the two seasons. Both have a big loss against a potentially top-5 team. Both have a win over a 15ish team (Oregon and Georgia Tech---and I don't think there's much doubt that Georgia Tech on the road is much, much tougher than a 4-2 Oregon team [they didn't truly beat Oklahoma]). Both have picked up "decent" wins (Cal- Arizona State; Notre Dame- Penn State).

Don't let one primetime win against an overrated team make you think that Cal is better than what the polls say they are. 10-12 is right where they should be.

Notre Dame has a bad victory over Michigan State. Does Cal have a bad victory? Nope. Since the debacle at Tennessee to start the year, Cal has:

-won 5 straight games

-scored over 40 points in each game with an average of 43.8 ppg

-had a average margin of victory of 25.6 points and won each game by over 20 points

Cal looked absolutely dominant in every game since the Tennessee game. The only game that was ever remotely in question was the Minnesota game in which they were up 28-17 at halftime. They were up 42-16 over Portland St. at halftime, 42-14 over ASU at halftime, 31-3 over OSU at halftime, and 28-10 over Oregon at halftime (they also scored the first 10 points of the second half to push their lead to 38-10).

PSU didn't look very good Saturday though and were handed a win at Minnesota. It's hard to get a good read on them at this point.

I agree with the sentiment though. I hear all this talk about how this team is different they'll definitely be undefeated heading to the OSU game and in watching them they are impressive. But then I remember that Lloyd is still on top.

They're at PSU this week and then host Iowa. If they get past those two, they'll cruise. We always play well against Michigan and play pretty well in Ann Arbor and late October is money time for Ferentz teams.

I am rooting for two things the remainder of the season:

1) For Penn State to win

2) For a huge BCS cluster-hump. I would love to see either a) 4 or 5 undefeated teams at year's end, resulting in teams that were ranked lower in the preseason to get pissed for being in a situation not of their own making or b) every team has 1 loss and everyone gets pissed again. The only way to fix this stupid system is for there to be no clear cut National Title game every year

Eh, Ben doesn't play defense - that's what will keep UCLA in the game no matter who's QBing. And quite frankly, outside of the Utah game, Ben hasn't been that great. He especially struggled on the road (this one is @ ND), looks confused with blitzes and different looks, etc.

Cowan knows the offense better, etc. Cowan's just not that talented.

That might actually help UCLA out then. ND's defense has been somewhat contingent on having the QB beat himself. I am sort of worrried that a not very talented game manager could come in, continue making the short throws, and just walk down the field 2-3 times on the Irish and make it a very good game.
