SIU's homecoming is this weekend against Western Illinois. WIU nearly upset Western Kentucky last week, before losing the game in the final minute. WIU gives up a lot of points, so SIU should hopefully score over 40 for the 4th time this season. I believe our defense should also be able to shut down Western and we should be 5-0 after Saturday.

NIU is playing on Sunday night this week; great air-time for people to see the man himself, Garrett Wolfe. Let's see...Northwestern beat Miami Ohio big. Northwestern (sorry Jon) is not a real good team this year. NIU should be able to score their share of points on Miami's defense. I'm hoping the Redhawks can get a couple of fluke TD's to keep it somewhat close so Garrett can pad his stats, but I'm greedy like that :D NIU should win this game by 2-3 scores.

do you really think Indiana, Northwestern and Illinois could beat Vanderbelt or the Mississippi schools? I dont. Michigan St probably could have before their letdown, I dont think they could now.

I think a round robin of Big 10's bottom 4 against the SEC's bottom 4 favors the Big 10. By how much depends on how much Orange kool aid I drank that week.

I wouldnt go as far as saying they are bad. I just think that some of the early season hype had them as the best conference. I still think Iowa, Penn St and Wisconsin can play with a lot of teams. Purdue and Minnesota are solid and will make bowl gams. MSU, Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern are bad though. How many SEC schools are this bad? Maybe Kentucky

Agreed.

The depth in the Big Ten this year is as bad as it's been in quite a while. The top 2 are very, very good as OSU is clearly the #1 team right now and Michigan is a legit top 5 team.

Admittedly Iowa hasn't looked great thus far, but Ferentz' teams always get better as you get into October and November. They made way too many mistakes last weekend and didn't play close to their best game, but kept it about as competitive as Texas did. I would be very surprised if they end up worse than 9-3 and 10-2 looks very possible.

Wisconsin is looking a little better than I thought they would be and Penn State has a very solid defense while their offense should get better as Morelli gets more time. After that you have Purdue who is as enigmatic as anyone and then a bunch of teams that are bad or not as good as they have been.

With Quinn not looking quite up to his 2005 level and Troy Smith not putting up especially gaudy numbers, I'd cast my Heisman vote for Garrett Wolfe right now. He's torn through us for over 600 yards in 2 games here in Muncie, so I know of what I speak.

TBA's updated.

Ball State has a must-win this week. Buffalo is an abysmal team (they beat TEMPLE 9 to 3), and since a win would move the Cards to 2-1 in the MAC, they wouldn't necessarily be dead yet. With our defense (which is now giving up 497 yards a game), nothing is a gimme though.

Side note: The game also features the last two qualified QBs not to throw an interception this season: Buffalo's Drew Willy (118 throws) and BSU's Nate Davis (77 throws). Davis is going to be incredible in the next couple of years.

In mildly shocking news, according to the Mizzou release about the game, Mizzou is (I assume tied) for the 4th longest current winning streak in the nation, with 6. plz come soon Saturday.

Couple of games tonight, TCU-Utah, and FSU-NC State(ESPN)

BCS rankings for the week ending 10/2. There is no Wolfe computer poll yet, the official BCS rankings are released in two weeks.

The computers love Michigan, Oregon and Notre Dame. They hate LSU and West Virginia.

Here is the top 15:

1. Ohio State .9992

2. USC .9406

3. Auburn .8784

4. Michigan .8574

5. Florida .8541

6. Louisville .7038

7. West Virginia .6973

8. Oregon .6902

9. Notre Dame .6323

10. Georgia .6063

11. Texas .6036

12. LSU .5423

13. Oklahoma .4916

14. Tennessee .4649

15. California .3585

LSU has lost and West Virginia hasn't played anyone.

Thankfully for Michigan, no matter what happens as long as they win out, they will be in the title game. They get a free BCS boost if they can beat OSU on the road (unlikely at this point, but possible)

Edit: Just realized that 1 loss teams like ND are ahead of LSU. Oh well that will change this weekend against Florida

I'm guessing that means there are 3 unique streaks longer than theirs, not just 3 teams with longer streaks. Cause if it's the latter, well I just have no faith in statistics anymore.

I don't believe margin of victory comes into play, and ND's schedule has been tougher than LSU's I'm sure. Texas, I'm not so sure that their schedule would be harder, but that won't matter when they lose to Oklahoma this week and IMB gets even more pissed at the Oregon refs.

Why would that be? There are only 13 teams left that are undefeated this season. It is not unlikely that only 4 of them finished last season winning their last few games as well to have a longer current winning streak.

Reason for Edit: Sorry, I am just counting them up. I had 11, but I counted 13 just now. Still though, a great number of those teams I know lost their bowl game (USC, Oregon, Michigan, Georgia at least just on a quick look)

I think the streak that TCU had broken last week was only 13 games or something, so I'd tend to think that could be right.

Yup, this is why im not concerning myself with the rankings. As long as Michigan keeps winning, things will work out for them.

UK is one upset away from poss. locking up a bowl bid (assuming they beat the teams they should). Most of that is from a weak non-conference sched. (minus UL), but who's watching? :)

Yeah, I remember after TCU lost I checked to see who had the longest and in calculating was surprised how many teams had streaks broken by bowl games. FTR, OSU is first with 12 in a row, then WVU with 11, and Florida with 7.

Nothing like being bumped from ESPN2 by baseball tonight and a playoff game. Who knows if I can watch the game on ESPN 360.

And this game will also suck. Brewer will start once again because Kafka isn't 100% and Bacher needs another week of practice.

And Heinz, who was going to make his season debut on Saturday, left practice when his foot (the same one with the ankle problem) was stepped on.

Texas lost to OSU on September 9th. So, doubtful.

NC State beat Florida State tonight. Chuck Amato seems to have his former boss's number.

One of the things I've always disliked about Florida St players is that always run out of bounds with the ball.....well not always but you know what I mean. They run out of bounds yards before contact, they have no heart.

This is why the SEC annoys me.

http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/9707130/2

They play each other and no one else and it propells them to the top spot? Georgia is so good because they beat Colorado by 1 and a 1-4 Mississippi by 5? Auburn with Buffalo, Arkansas St and Tulane...yeah, they better be undefeated with that non-conference schedule too. I don't deny that this is a talented conference, it's just too many of the top teams don't have the balls to play a home and home against real teams. Why..."because our conference is so tough we have to play D2 schools"...that's just the reason why they have inflated records and the conference is so tough. Ohio St plays Texas...Michigan plays ND...Iowa, well they did skate in theirs. WV did skate in theirs while Louisville played Miami and Kansas St. USC playes ND after playing Nebraska.

I guess the point of my rant is that I get annoyed at teams just playing good teams in their conference and 4 patsies. WV is guilty of this too this year even though they did play Marshall and Maryland which is Marylands only loss but Maryland has played nothing but weak teams.

USC and ND are the only major college teams that have played all their games against other major college teams (defined as BCS conference teams).

It should be noted that to this point, OSU has played only one non BCS conference team, and that is one of the top non BCS schools in NIU.

All of this talk about Florida being above OSU if Florida goes undefeated (as well as OSU) is absurd. OSU's schedule was no walk in the park, and they are really handling teams well.
