This is from the Baltimore Sun website. Haven't found it on the LAT website yet.

Lance Pugmire & Tim Brown / LA Times[/url]"] Roger Clemens, 44, one of professional baseball's most durable and successful pitchers, is among six players accused by a former teammate of using performance-enhancing drugs, The Times has learned. The names had been blacked out in an affidavit filed in federal court.

Others whose identities had been concealed include Clemens' fellow Houston Astros pitcher, Andy Pettitte, and former American League Most Valuable Player Miguel Tejada of the Baltimore Orioles.

The discovery ends four months of speculation surrounding the possible identities of Major League Baseball figures whose names were redacted from a search warrant affidavit filed in Phoenix on May 31. The document was based on statements made to federal agents by pitcher Jason Grimsley.

Grimsley, a journeyman relief pitcher who has played on several teams including the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and the Angels, acknowledged using steroids, amphetamines and other drugs, investigators said in the document. He also implicated a number of former teammates, but the names were blacked out in copies of the affidavit that were made public in June after investigators used the warrant to raid Grimsley's house.

A source with authorized access to an unredacted affidavit allowed The Times to see it, but retained it to read back what had been blacked out of the public copies. A second source and confidante of Grimsley had previously disclosed player identities and provided additional details about the affidavit. The sources insisted on anonymity.

The affidavit also alleges that Grimsley told federal agents that his former Oriole teammates -- Tejada, Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons -- "took anabolic steroids." Roberts was the American League's All-Star second baseman in 2005 when Grimsley was an Oriole.

Here's the link to the LA Times article.

Grimsley has not been charged. Since June, he has complained to friends that federal agents credited him with statements and disclosures he didn't make.

"Jason is loyal to the death, a hard-headed guy who would not give up his friends," one of Grimsley's friends said Saturday. "The only names he discussed with those investigators were names ... [the investigators] suggested to him."

The Grimsley friend, who talked about the investigation on condition that he was not named, said investigators warned the pitcher "if he didn't continue to cooperate, they would expose him as a rat."

For several years I have wondered why Bonds has taken the brunt of the Steroid fallout when it is pretty obvious to anyone who doesnt have their head in the Sand that Clemens is just as guilty. I understand that Bonds is a surly jerk, but so is Clemens. I understand that Bonds is doing things at an age no one else has, but so is Clemens. I understand that Bonds head is bigger now than it was 10 years ago, but so is Clemens. For the life of me I just dont understand how Bonds has been the Steroid poster boy while Clemens keeps getting a free pass from almost everyone in the media.

It's because Clemens is well received by the media, Bonds isn't.

I'm sure more than 6 of Grimsley's teammates did steroids.

I am not so sure that Bonds wasnt recieved well by the media. For several years ESPN has tried to make us like Barry Bonds, it just didnt work. ESPN has also tried to make us like Clemens, in this case they have had a lot more success.

He was a Red Sox

He was a Yankee.

Need I say more?

Hm, this isn't on ESPN at all. I would have figured they would jump all over this.

Oh really? *gears up the rant machine.......*

That would require objectivity and journalistic integrity, both qualities ESPN has precious little of.

They'll wait until they can't anymore----secretly hoping somehow the story is false so they don't have to carry it. ESPN knows which players bring cash into the coffers. Clemens and Tejada are 2 of them.

You do realize they're planning the all-time biggest bash in history for when Bonds breaks Aaron's record, right? That's their boy---they even signed him to a contract to do a puff-piece mini series. Bonds is a damn ESPN employee, for crying out loud! You think Clemens won't be once he retires? Think again, my man. Think again.

Oh silly me. How could I not see that? Stupid poster boys Clemens and Bonds, loved for eternity by ESPN.

ESPN is definitely way too biased.

I'm not surprised. I think someone on here in the offseason made the claim that Tejada (when talking about the trade that never happened) could've been on the juice when discussing his 2nd half numbers in 05. Once again, this proves NSBB members know more than any other dumb analyst :)

Seriously though, Clemens was always a suspicion. Two of his best years have been when he was in his 40s. How is that possible for a pitcher? Pettite isn't surprising either seeing how they train together all the time and how they are best friends. I'm not really surprised by any of these guys taking roids. Don't forget Roberts was leading the AL in homers for some time last year and this year, he's had like 3 homers on the season.

See? They read my post and, realizing the game was up, led off with the story. 8)

I wish it worked as well with Hendry as it does with ESPN!

Personally, I hate Clemens, so I tend to beleive this story somewhat, but still...what evidence is there that Grimsley is telling the truth?

Umm the feds busted into his home and threatened to give him a long stay in federal prision if he didn't name viable steroids users.

What does that have to do with him telling the truth? If I was him, I'd just throw out some high profile names and sprinkle in some lesser known nobodies who I knew would be easy targets. The best lies have a nugget of truth and an untied ending.

People can claim whatever they want under whatever pressure is applied. None of it is true unless verified by other independent sources.

Half the players in baseball or more were probably guilty of being on 'something'. Players have cited the numbers and used words like 'rampant' but people just refuse to believe it. So names trickle out one by one and until one's own favorite players or team's are singled out refuse to accept the likely reality. They really need to call about a 7 year period from 97/98-2005 the 'steroid era'.

I too have always been a bit suspicious of Clemens. With all the articles about his "famous" off season training regimes that he and his buddy Pettite went through in Texas. It was always "How hard Roger works out....yada yada ".....a bit of a stretch IMO.

I always gave Tejada a pass....no real reason for it....but his name does seem to come up quite a bit.

on one part of my bookshelves I have, both "Juiced" and "Game of Shadows", both of which I have read. Next to it is an older tell all book, "Ball Four"; that one created it's own furor "back in the day".

So some of our "heroes" have sinned. Sigh. It was ever thus. Who knows where this is going to end? Nothing surprises me any more.

How do we know who is telling the truth? Well those two reporters who wrote "Shadows" decided to go to jail rather than reveal their sources. They must feel that they had the truth.

So we move on. Now we are in the "clean" era. But there are times when I wish Cendeno et. al. would take some performance enhancing drugs; at least different drugs than what Hendry and Baker have been smoking these pst four years.

Ha this was rumored last year. I even started a post on it then. Clemens is a jucie head.

Bonds also broke one of the most hallowed of all baseball records when he hit 73 home runs, and is on his way to breaking another one of baseball's hallowed records.

Clemens, for all his greatness and accomplishments, won't hold any single-season or career records that gets as much attention as the home run records.

With these allegations, it just shows what an outstanding pitcher Greg Maddux has been and still is.
