Paul Sullivan / The Trib[/url]"] Manager Dusty Baker and most of his coaching staff will be out of jobs by Monday morning.

"I'm gone," Baker told the Tribune after Sunday's season finale, an 8-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies that left the Cubs with a 66-96 record.

Did he say that during the press conference??

Add this in with MacPhail quitting, and the Bears win, I dont know if this day can get much better.

Though Cubs players didn't have much to say about the change in team presidents—why should they?—they were in agreement that Dusty Baker will be getting a raw deal when he is "fired" Monday morning.

The entire clubhouse seemed resigned to Baker not being asked back, especially after he bade them goodbye after Sunday's final 8-5 victory over Colorado.

"I don't feel bad for Dusty, because Dusty's fine. It's kind of unfair what he's been through," said team leader Derrek Lee, the 2005 NL batting champion who re-signed with the Cubs in part because of Baker.

There's no crying in baseball, Derrek.

I am amazed at how many people seem to think on this board that Dusty will be re-signed. There is zero chance of that happening especially now that MacPhail has resigned. The Cubs are trying to show fans that losing won't be tolerated and bringing back Dusty would certainly be a reversal of changing leadership at the top.

As recently as mid-August I fully expected Dusty to be back, but then the team went into another major tailspin, which Dusty couldn't afford if he wanted to stay with the Cubs. From a PR standpoint I think it's no longer possible to retain Dusty.

From today's game...

MiniBake: "What the f*** is this?"

BigBake: "My lineup. "

MiniBake: "No wonder yer gunna get fired."

BigBake: :?:

MacPhail resigns, Dusty almost certainly gone, and the Bears demolish Seattle. The only thing that would have made it a better day is if Hendry announced he was leaving too. Oh well, you can't have everything.

Bake: See, this is my line-up card.

Little Bake: But Daddy, Jose Macias ain't on this team no more!

His attitude the last few months and in the article tonight really keeps me from having ANY sympathy for the man. He refuses to take responsibility, which he should do if he feels it's true or not.

Goodbye Dusty, you are a poor manager.
