This is just the typical spin that upper management gives to the media when firing personnel. I don't think we should infer too much from this.

To start talking specifics today is self-defeating from his point of view.

It is quite possible that Hendy's plan is contingent on Aramis' decision.

What kind of position would he be putting himself in to say "Our plan is to win the World Series next year" and then have Aramis declare he won't be back tomorrow?

Sounds like I'm missing a real laugher here.

More like a vaguely awkward speech. Think nerdy 6th grader running for student council president-level.

I'm getting a terrible vibe from Hendry. He sounds like he has no confidence in his ability to get the job done and is shocked that things went so poorly, and still doesn't understand why things went poorly. I really think he's lost without a plan.

my favorite part of the mlb.com article:

Baker wasn't consulted on the deals, such as the Aug. 20 trade which sent Neifi Perez to the Detroit Tigers. Baker found out during the national anthem of the Cubs game that day, and was called off the field to give Perez the news.

But he was when it came to aquiring other players. Here's hoping Mr. Hendry does his job and does what is right to fix this team and listen, but don't go after the players the manager wants him to.

Allowing Hendry to remain in power is like leaving Karl Dönitz as Führer of Germany. The old regime has been de-legitimized and a self-admittedly incompetent team president gave Hendry his lastest contract. How can Hendry even portray himself as a legit leader anymore?
