I won't miss Dusty, I won't miss his style, and I won't miss the dozens of Dusty threads.

 

This might be the most theraputic day I can recall in recent Chicago sports history: Bears crush Hawks cementing themselves as SB contenders, MacPhail resigns (finally), and Dusty should be gone by the time I get back from Yom Kippur services this morning.

 

Hendry has one year to fix this thing. Hope he's planning something big.

I have a feeling Hendry is gonna do some big things this off season....knowing his job is in serious jeopardy.

 

Same here, so I'm pretty scared. Big pressure leads to big mistakes.

Agreed. What bargaining chips does he have to work with now? He's completely drained the minor leagues, and his major league ballclub is chok-full of junk nobody wants or bad contracts. The Trib's not going to open the coffers so he can spend his way out of this hole, that's for sure.

I'm just frightened that the parting of ways will be followed by an announcement that Lou Piniella has been hired as manager.

 

I'm afraid that announcement will come literally seconds after announcing Dusty wont be back.

 

I deserve a honeymoon period, damnit. I've been unhappy since May... just give me a couple weeks of unbridled optimism already.

I think he has enough money or trading chips to do the following things:

 

1)Sign/Trade for an impact starting pitcher (a #1 or a #2 guy)

2)Sign/Trade for either an impact CF or an impact 2b

3)Sign/Trade for a decent one of the one you didn't get in #2..probably a stopgap CF (because I think 2b will be easier to fill with a good to great player than CF, if not Andruw Jones)

4)Sign/Trade for a platoon partner for Jones

5)Sign/Trade for a back end of the starting rotation starter (#3, #4, #5)

 

If we have to sign all of those players, we won't have quite enough money, unless the Tribune expands the payroll. If one of these is a trade or two, then all of this is possible.

With Baker and MacPhail out the door, Hendry obviously feels quite a bit of heat right now, but I'm afraid of what will happen if/when he makes his major moves to clean up his mess. Like Rob said, big pressure=big mistakes.

SHOCKING!

 

But you'd think seniors in high school, who I know are nowhere near as busy as I in many respects, could find the time to type up a three page paper, considering they already had it written. Whatever, I enjoy the free lab-time.

 

EDIT: Irony- complaining about people not finishing a writing assignment properly, in a post filled with errors.

I taught seniors my first year. I feel confident saying that they made more excuses in that one year about not completing papers and assignments than all my middle schoolers have in the past five years.
