Cal was embarrassing providing further evidence that the SEC is the best conference in football and that the Pac-10 is USC and some other teams. Tennessee looked scarily good after laying a total egg last season. I am sure Phat Phil be looking forward to his trip to Columbia this season and another showdown with Darth Visor.

As for the total lovefest with ND, Ga Tech is a one-man offense, Calvin Johnson. Ball was his usual underwhelming self. I don't know how ND fans take a lot out of that game. I do know this, ND is not the second best team in the nation. I hope Penn State waxes them next week so that we can stop this absurd ND hype machine. They are a good team, but its getting ridiculous.

I'm with you on the "ND hype machine." I'm getting sick of it.

The crazy part about it, to me, is that I think Charley Weis is going to make them a power. His recruiting is off the charts, he's an excellent game-planner, and a good game coach. Its just absurd that they are putting the cart way before the horse. How about we wait until he makes them great, THEN the national media can fawn all over them.

Stop antagonizing them, it will just make it worse around here

Ok now what is up with Lee Corso saying SC wont win a SEC title under Spurrier? This is absurd to be so sure that it wont happen. Florida wasnt the powerhouse they were until he got there and installed that offense. He can coach, recruit and stay out of trouble. Hell even Lou Holtz had a really good season and Spurrier is twice the coach he is.

Speaking of Lou Holtz he is a complete ass on television. He constantly belittles Mark May and dribbles all over himself when he talks. Mark May needs to pile drive that POS into the newsdesk. Trev Alberts was in self love with himself but he at least made me laugh.

I absolutly hated Alberts, but loved watching Nebraska suck it up his last year their.

I love Lou Holtz to death, but watching him and Mark May debate on television is sort of like watching John Kruk and Steve Phillips debate on Baseball Tonight.

Memphis Tigers up 7-0 on OleMiss.

Take that Olemiss!

Thanks for the reminder. Time to do some scouting for next week.

I'm nervous about next week. That game is the key to the entire season. With New Mexico and Colorado both losing to D1-AA teams, a 5-0 start is entirely possible. Hopefully there's a huge crowd next week and the Tigers take it to Ole Miss. This running back and the qb make me nervous, though.

Lou Holtz is an idiot. Mark May is barely a notch above him.

Meanwhile, with 2 minutes to go in East Lansing, MSU only leads Idaho 24-17.

And yet they'll look like a completely different team when Notre Dame rolls in on 9/23.

I have no ND bias either way, but is it me or is Zbikowski or whatever the safety's name is a really good football player? I was very impressed by his play.

Zbikowski is a stud.

UC Davis started off the season well with a 38-7 demolishing of Northern Colorado even with their top wide receiver recording no catches on the day due to a minor ankle sprain. Held UNC to 32 yards rushing for the game as well.

Bring on TCU!! We're gonna take down the Horned Frogs.

I'm sure they will. The two things that have mystified me most about Notre Dame football in the last decade are how Lloyd Carr hasn't been able to beat ND consistently when he had so much more talent for the bulk of that time, and how Michigan State has dominated ND despite not having as much talent in the bulk of that time.

I think its fair to say that our history is not the envy of college football. But how anyone can definitively say that Spurrier can't win the conference at USC is ridiculous. He's already recruiting well and has assembled a top notch coaching staff. He just donated $250,000 to our athletic department and he is pushing for the donations to improve our facilities. As for Corso in general, he's a pot-stirrer. That's it. If the guy really knew what he was talking about he might still be coaching. Lou Holtz is thoroughly unwatchable, just like our team under his direction in his last two seasons.

Charles Rogers

Plax

TJ Duckett

Those guys were pretty much unstoppable in college. MSU doesnt generally have loads of talent (although probably still more than ND in the last 10 years) at many positions but when they hit a true playmaker they hit it big. Those guys had huge games against ND.

Frankly, I was stunned when Corso said that. I thought Holtz was the only person who'd say idiotic stuff.

Auburn looked pretty good against Washington State and didn't reveal a tremendoous amount of their playbook in doing so.

When my friend and I heard Corso say that we were both shocked. It would be one thing to say that Spurrier wouldn't win a National Championship at South Carolina but it's insane to think that he won't win an SEC conference title at South Carolina.
