If you could go back in time knowing what you know now, as a fan would you still "let their be light" at Wrigley Field?

 

 

I am kind of torn on this issue. I get to watch many more games now than if there were no night baseball.

 

But, on the other hand, some of my fondest memories of childhood were rushing home after school to catch the last few innings. Seeing the shadows creep across the diamond as Lee Smith began his long, slow walk in from the bullpen was something that I enjoyed greatly.

 

Anyone feel passionately about this, one way or the other?

I think that we need lights more than ever. Coming from a person who has never lived that close to Chicago (3 hours away at best), all day games would be all right when there were 144 games on a year. Now that there are 80-90, the team already feels disconnected at times-and if there were all day games, than even less would be seen and more of the fanbase would slowly trickle away.

I happen to like the lights in Wrigley. I remember a concern of fans was how it would make Wrigley look. From an aesthetic standpoint they did an exceptional job, imo.

 

For selfish reasons night games allow me to actually watch home games live as opposed to replay of that day's game. That being said I do like day games better overall, but like night games in a limited amount as they do now.

 

And most importantly there was nothing more annoying than watching a game and then having it suspended due to darkness especially if you were attending that game.

I had fond memories of rushing home after school as well, but I'm an adult now (kinda..lol), work 8-5, and thus prefer night games.

My favorite games to watch and attend are day games, but I think night games at Wrigley are pretty cool, and were a necessary addition to the schedule.

 

From a strictly nostalgic standpoint, I do think it was kinda cool how up until the late 80s, our stadium didn't have lights.

I love day games, but like others have said...night games were a necessity. Also, I bet I've probably been to 20-30 day games, and maybe only 2 or 3 night games at Wrigley. This rarity makes night games additionally exciting to me. Either way, there's no wrong time to watch a game at Wrigley.

Wrigley was supposed to have lights installed during the 40's. However, after the WW2 broke out, the Cubs' donated the lights to the war-effort. (I believe they were used in a shipyard).

I've never been to an actual night game at Wrigley. I've gone to games where it has gotten dark by the end.

I don't really mind the night games and, as has been stated already, I feel they are a necessity.

 

I do like that they have a number of day games though because that is how I became a Cubs fan. Coming home from school and turning on the tv to watch baseball was very nice.

Night games are a blast, and at least when I am in person I prefer them to day games. Anyone who says no to this question needs to ask themselves if they would have liked to see us play our 2003 playoff games at US Cellular Field.

What many of you probably don't know is that if the Cubs would have made the playoffs in 86, 87, or 88, they would have had to play their home games at Busch. It wouldn't have happened in 88, cause they got their lights. But it was in the rules at that time, home games for the Cubs were to be played in St.Louis.

That's right. Back then, home field advantage alternated between the East and West divisions from year to year. It had nothing to do with which team had a better record.
