  1. This all cracks me up, because of several reasons. I play professionally. In spring training there is extensive drug tests. There is really no way Rick Ankiel made those two throws because he is on HGH. You cannot start the season and be on HGH. Every player in the league right now is clean, and the players know that, but if a player does really well, they all know "oh boy, we are going to be accused of cheating." Did Ankiel in 04 take HGH. Sure, probably did. Was it medically prescribed to him. Yes. Is he taking it this year? Absolutely not. If he took it four years ago, that does not help him make two throws four years later. It actually would hurt him. Players talk about this all the time. They talk about how stupid it is to take the stuff, because it only hurts you down the road. Secondly, the rules in the minor leagues are stiff stiff stiff. If you get caught cheating down there. Man, it hurts you for a long time. June 1st is the date in which the testing really slows down. However, you could be randomly selected to be tested. All the players find it interesting that Roger Clemens started playing on June 1st the last couple of years. That's all I will say on that.
  2. after reading this thread, i'm sooo glad i'm not a cub fan. wow.
  3. I don't know if I have seen a guy in major league baseball that plays to win more than Pujols. The Cardinals are really lucky to have him. His winning attitude is contagious. I would take nine guys on the field that has his attitude about winning any day on my team. No one roots for his teammates or plays to win more than him. Should this statement have been said by him? you make your judgement on that. But I know this much, it doesn't negate the fact that he is a winner. I would expect him to want to win the mvp, knowing he is a competitor. If I was a cardinal fan, I wouldn't be a bit upset at this. This guy wants to win at everything.
  4. what i've always found interesting is that once sammy stepped into the courtroom, he all of a sudden couldn't speak any english at all! He had thousands of interviews before in his career, and I had never had a problem understanding what he was saying. He had a weird accent/dialect, but there was never a question in what he was saying. All of a sudden.....can't speak the language, haha.
  5. maybe we should find some players that have class...play with heart...play to win....care more about the team than themselves....find a manager where everything isn't about race (which we've found)....and players that won't blame ghosts and tradition on losing, and just go out and play hard nosed baseball. I don't know, minus the tradition comment, that seems to be what the cardinals did. just play hard...all nine innings.
  6. Cardinal fan I am...but I will admit, anyone from the midwest, and that includes Cub players, have to have stellar years to win the award over anyone from the east coast. I know that's a simple statement, but you know it's true.
  7. I didn't put two and two together.
  8. During the Cardinals recent eight game losing streak, someone told me that the Cardinals and Cubs have more in common than most people realize. He said, "they are both struggling right now, and neither of them have won a world series since they've moved into their new stadium." haha I said, "well, the cardinals haven't had a chance yet." I didn't realize the Cubs haven't won a title since they have moved into Wrigley. That's scary.
  9. What many of you probably don't know is that if the Cubs would have made the playoffs in 86, 87, or 88, they would have had to play their home games at Busch. It wouldn't have happened in 88, cause they got their lights. But it was in the rules at that time, home games for the Cubs were to be played in St.Louis.
  10. cbbryan, you're probably right actually. Although, the more I think about it, no one can beat the Twins at home. Since they have the home field advantage (because of one exhibition game in July), they would be hard to beat in Minnesota. Especially when they blow the wind out when they hit, and blow it in when the visitors hit. Crazy stuff! I'm actually surprised that's not on the the top ten cheating list on this forum.
  11. NL East: Mets Central: Cards West: Giants WC: Reds AL East: Yankees Central: Tigers West: A's WC: Twins NL: Mets over Reds Cards over Giants Cards over Mets AL: Tigers over A's Twins over Yankees Twins over Tigers World Series: Cards over Twins (rematch of '87) By the way, it's not inconcievable for the Cards to finish with the best record in the NL. They are currently 1.5 games back of the Mets.
  12. to me it looks like they just walk around blaming injuries, managers, management, etc when something goes wrong. Other good teams, such as the Cardinals, Yankees and others have had years with horrendous injuries, yet shut their mouth and grinded out the season. I DO believe that starts with the manager. The two teams I mentioned have LaRussa and Torre, and neither of those managers are going to sit their and let their players blame ANYTHING on their losing. That's why I like watching those teams play the game; cause they shut their mouths and play hard every day every inning. If the Cubs want to become a year in and year out playoff team, they need to find players/coaches who shut their mouths and just play baseball for nine innings every day, instead walking around with a chip on their shoulder.
  13. I'm a Cards fan, but my goodness, why wouldn't Walker be in the line up? He kills the Cardinals, though I don't know the stats on that, he's just a hard out.
  14. As a Cardinal fan, I have been worried about the Cubs the last few years. They go into the season with such high promise. But I have learned that whatever is going on in that franchise right now, it doesn't matter how much talent they have, I feel safe. I don't know if the problem is Dusty, or the players, or Hendry, or for that matter the Tribune. But as a Cardinal fan, I want them to keep things the way they are. That being said, if Cardinal fans feel that way, doesn't the Cub management realize that? and if so, wouldn't they want to make a change?
