. . . yesterday. I couldn't believe that most of the park participated in "the wave." It went around at least twice and even my son -- who is now cut out of the will -- took part. I thought I was at the baseball stadium on the south side. Oh, except that they would only "do the wave" if the electronic signs in the park told them to do so -- otherwise, they'd sit on their hands. It was totally out-of-place at Wrigley.

It started in RF bleachers. We were in LF bleachers. They started it a few times until it finally spilled over to willing participants in LF. Some regular at the beer stand was having a total conniption fit over the whole thing.

To make up for it some of the LF fans began the old "Right Field sucks!" chant.

I hate the wave. I also hate:

Races (Sausage, President, etc)

Those damned games on the jumbotron (Follow the ball!)

Dumb, unoriginal, mascots (most of them) in baseball

Thankfully, Wrigley has none.

I hate the scoreboard craftsman lawnmower race, and any other computer generated race, especially those that don't result in a possible prize for certain fans.

Oh, come on. Scoreboard races aren't that bad. They're fun ways to pass the time between innings and get people talking to one another in the stands. Yes, yes, I know, "Watch and talk about the game." But seriously, there's bigger things to complain about at baseball stadiums.

1. Price of food and drink

2. Price of souvenirs

3. Sight lines (Support beams at Wrigley, I'm looking at you. . . )

Who the hell cares? You go to the ballpark to have fun. Doing the wave is harmless fun. Why get so worked up over it. Save your energy for the bunch of losers on the field.

If thats true, I am renouncing my membership in the RF fan club and am going to switch primarily to the LF side.

Haha the president race in Washington was so corny when I went to the Cubs game there last month. All the promotions were real corny.... "Paint the town red!!" And all the games like "guess the attendance" (unscramble a bunch of digits) are so staged... it was nice to quiet down the Nats fans when Aram went upper deck for the second time... too bad our bullpen sucks and we lost that game. :(

Agreed. Maybe everyone's getting tired of being upset at the team, so they're finding silly little things to get upset at now.

People have been anti-wave at Wrigley for a long time.

I went to a game a number of years ago. In the section next to mine, there was a bachelor party going on with a bunch of guys in their late 20s drunk out of their minds. They tried to start the wave, but no one was budging on it.

Eventually, an usher came over to them and said, "Sirs, we do not engage in that kind of behavior here at Wrigley. Please stop."

It ruled. :D

I seem to remember reading that the reason Wrigley fans don't do the wave is because Padre fans did throughout the '84 playoffs in San Diego.

there is bad mojo in that thing, boys.

baaaaad mojo.

Trib article

The wave unofficially has been banned at Wrigley since 1984, when San Diego fans performed it almost non-stop at Jack Murphy Stadium during the Padres' comeback against the Cubs in the National League Championship Series.

Sarcastic wave?

After the Cubs had a winning home stand it seemed to me the croud did a wave that was kind of sarcastic. Like wahooo look at the Cubs now.

I thought it was funny in a sarcastic sort of way.

This entire team is bad mojo. I don't think the wave could make us have any worse luck.

Some hot girls tried to start the wave when I was at Wrigley earlier this summer in the bleachers and no one even moved. I had to explain to them that if they want to do the wave, they should go to the south side.

this probably only happened because 80% of the people did not even realize they were at a cubs game. i'm sure most thought they were at a tavern with an outdoor beer garden and mindlessly followed the status quo....
